Background: Up until last week I had Microsoft updates set at automatic - being the stupid trusting person that I am. After a fairly large update I found that my browser had been changed from IE8 to IE10. I could not change back, in fact I could not find a single site where I could get IE8 or 9, the Microsoft one showed up a flag to IE8 but when clicked on it was IE10! I even did a restore hoping that I would get IE8 back but no such luck in fact I had to download IE10 on my spare PC and install it again (having uninstalled it in a fit of pique).
Now: Every time I use my browser I get a pop up asking if I want IE10 as my default and I say 'yes', I also get a pop up showing me a list of things that load up with my browser and ask if I want to switch them of 'to improve the speed of my browser' I now ignore this pain in the proverbial. I am sure there is a way to stop this but it isn't my main problem at the mo.
Main problem: Since the above my FSX and P3D have switched back to desktop (not crashed, just gone into Pause mode) and a flag/box/thingy (note my high understanding of techie stuff) telling me that a program from Perion Network Ltd wants to load up 'wssetup.exe'. I searched the net and found that this program is regarded as malware by some or harmless by others - really helpful. Anyway I found the 'wssetup' file on my PC and deleted it - problem solved? Nah, the flag keeps on appearing around half an hour into my time on the PC. I always refuse to allow the install and I can then go back to my flight sim without any further hiccup.
Now then, the install flag always says that it wants to install 'wssetup.exe' "from the Hard Drive". I cannot find either Perion or 'wssetup.exe' on my PC and my virus checker Kaspersky doesn't show up any virus or malware.
I've run out of ideas - apart from a full reinstall of Windows 7 .
Can anyone guide this simple idiot out of the dark?
Thanks in advance.
Allan

Re: WSSETUP/PERION NETWORK
Perion usually come bundled with other detritus. Its not a virus, so the easiest thing will be to let it install and then uninstall it.
With regards the performance options, when it asks you if you want to select which add-ons to disable, say yes! Then at the bottom of the screen it will ask you something like how many seconds you want to wait before an add-on is considered as slowing things down. Set it to 3 seconds or something like that and it shouldn't bother you again unless there is a problem

Re: WSSETUP/PERION NETWORK
Thanks Ben, sorry for not replying earlier but I have had a day at the chiropractor and feel a bit second-hand and have only recently turn my PC on.
In typical fashion the dreaded Perion/wssetup has not shown it's face tonight but it will turn up sooner or later and I will let you know how it goes.
Thanks again.
