Today's exercise was to fit the 707 with shockwave lights and fly a short flightplan using the iPad Remote Flight Apps. I flew from Ketchikan to Sitka which is about 40 minutes. There's no access to the GPS on the 707 and the autopilot is awkward to get to in the VC so I wanted to see how much the iPad Apps could help. In fact the RF autopilot controlled everything except the navigation mode (man, hdg, nav etc) which had to be selected in the cockpit. Everything else was controlled smoothly from the iPad (over wifi). I also used the other iPad App, the map, for navigation (also over wifi). I created the flightplan in Prepar3d and then loaded it in the App and when the autopilot was selected to Nav the aircraft followed the flight plan perfectly and I could track progress on the iPad. It made flying the 707 far more pleasurable and positioned me to intercept the ILS manually and fly to an almost perfect landing. I'm feeling very pleased with myself and of course I took some pictures to share my success
And, yes, I did leave the landing lights on all the way. This is compulsory with shockwave lights because they look so good
Great pictures and its good when you enjoy yourself is'nt that's what its all about,
My Aerosoft Beaver for FSX arrived today and i am thinking of getting ORBX NA Blue Pacific Fjords for somewhere to fly it, i have had the PSNW Demo which i found great but i think the Pacific Fjords would be better, as i have had trouble this week and had to reinstall FSX all the Demos i had have now gone so i can start afresh!
I must say looking at some of the Video's of PJ it does look the business but then again Holger Sandmann does some great scenery,
Cheers,
Roger.

Thank you, Roger. I'm glad you like the pictures. You're absolutely right about enjoying oneself. That's my main priority in this hobby so I try to keep it simple with as little fiddling as possible. Although all that stuff about the iPad apps sounds complicated it really is very simple to set up and use and takes away the annoying part of flying the 707, which otherwise is one of my favourite aircraft to fly.
If you like flying fjords then you'll love FTX Pacific Fjords. And you have three superb add-on airfields to save up for in that region. Ketchikan, Stewart and Bella Coola which are three of the best fields that Orbx/FTX have done. I have them all and you've probably seen some of my pics of them.
Sitka (landing, above) however isn't in FTX PFJ. It's in a different scenery region called Tongass Fjords by FS Addons. It's of the same standard as PFJ and was created by Holger Sandmann before he joined Orbx. So he's created PFJ to join seamlessly to the south edge of Tongass and it blends perfectly. When Orbx release FTX South Alaska (again created by Holger) it will join to the north of Tongass Fjords. South PFJ blends with the northern edge of PNW to make one continuous area from southern Oregon up to Anchorage and Kodiak.
Yes i had Holger's Glacier Bay in fs2004 for years and thanks for the HU about Tongass Fjords by FS Addons, i have just had a look at it and its about the same price as ORBX PJ so i think i will go for TFJ ,
Thanks,
Roger.
PS, i does go to show that these Screenshots do help at times,

An excellent choice, Roger. It'll be a perfect home for your new Beaver. There are some very detailed airports and areas included in the main scenery and nothing else to buy.
But before you DO make your final decision, do you know about 'Return to Misty Moorings'? It's a community freeware site based around PFJ scenery. There are loads of freeware scenery add-ons and AI packages and adventures that you can download. There is enough here to keep an Alaskan bush pilot happy for a very long time! I don't use it myself but only because I don't have time!
Its quite mind blowing with the stuff they have one there so it may be better to have the ORBX PFJ scenery and at least then you can add items to it in the future,
Although i have gone through all the different aircraft over the years i have always liked the Beaver so i'm starting Bush Flying and it will kindle my interest back into Flight Simming again something that's been lacking of late! although i think it happens to us all at sometime.
Cheers Ian,
Roger.

Although Misty's Place (the virtual HQ) is situated near Ketchikan in PFJ, I'm pretty certain that the RTMM scenery options expand into Tongass Fjords as well. So later if you had a bit of cash spare you could add Tongass on to the North. And then, if you had even more spare cash you could buy FTX Ketchikan which enhances not only the airport but the town, harbour, seaplane base and surrounding mountains. But I'm getting ahead of myself and if Mrs Dodger sees this post she'll come looking for me
