FTX New Zealand, Milford Sound

Post by speedbird591 »

New scenery is coming thick and fast from Orbx/FTX. Felts Field last week, Goodwood yesterday and Milford Sound today. I'm pretty certain none of us on this forum has their New Zealand scenery and I wouldn't normally mention this release, which is their first add-on airport for NZ. But it's worth looking at the screenshots for this one because, yet again, they seem to have broken new ground.

Milford Sound is one of NZ South Island's most popular tourist destinations and the dramatic scenery and thick vegetation make this airport quite stunning. In fact it includes three airports for the price of one plus orcas and dolphins. I'm seriously thinking of buying NZ South Island scenery so that I can purchase this airport. I desperately need Colin to loan me his hammer to help me resist this.

Do have a quick look if you have time.

Hi Ian,

That looks fantastic, and this is what has been said before on these forums that if you do not know the area then at least to me its great scenery to fly in even though things may not be where they are in real life but what the hell its Virtual after all.!

Go on Ian buy yourself a christmas present

Happy Holiday to you and yours,

Roger.

Cheers, Roger and season's greetings to you and your lot as well. I think I'll be able to resist Milford Sound but only because I seem to have committed myself to Alaska and the Pacific North West and I just haven't got the time to fly all of them! I'm not totally sure, though, as the three airfields and the fjords around Milford look like some of the best bush flying ever created in FS.

If you search 'Milford Sound Airport' in Google Images you'll see how close it is to the real thing. I've never been to NZ South Island and I'm starting to wish that I had. Which is really annoying as I thought I'd visited everywhere I wanted to. Drat

You could do some long haul freight ops Ian. I'd just pretend the they were exporting something from Alaska for the Kiwi's or visa versa ;)

Those siren voices again :worried:

I don't need much encouragement, tbh, Ben, but fortunately my Cargomaster and the Pacific Ocean are incompatible and even I couldn't get the 737 into Milford Sound

LOL I didn't realise it was that small! I was thinking 707 never mind 73. :worried:

[EDIT]

Just checked out the link and I'd say that would be more than a challenge!

Ian I suspect that Ben would rather like you to put a virtual 737 into The Sound! EricT

You could be right, Eric. He's branching out from baked bean cans and wants to use them to generate coral reefs.

Ian, I have spent eight holidays in NZ and have visited Milford and Doubtful Sounds, so I guess I will be getting that when it is released...The shots remind me of how it looked when I was there and I did the little voyage on one of those boats. I do have NZ South Island and will probably get North Island too because I have travelled both and like aspects of both islands.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours :)

It was released on Christmas Eve, Peter. It's ready and waiting for you!

I hadn't realised that you already had NZ South Island or I would have PMd you  Well, now I'm already looking forward to some screenshots and videos of the fjords and the three airports you get in this scenery. I imagine you'll also get your speedboat out to get up close to the orcas and dolphins, if your past record is anything to go by

You are very lucky to have been on holiday there so many times. I visited Auckland a few times in the 70s and 80s but with no time to acclimatise to the time change the jetlag was a killer with only 48 hours off. I did have a memorable day out when four of us hitched a lift in a Grumman Goose of SeaBee Air out to Rotoroa Island and had a fantastic day hiking. I also remember seeing the original Greenpeace vessel, Rainbow Warrior, badly damaged in Auckland harbour after the French secret service blew it up. Oh yes! And fuzzy memories of being driven on a booze tour around the vineyards by two Air New Zealand hosties and back to a party at theirs in the evening. Damn, they were good days, back when I was young :(

Ian :)
