ORBX Vashon Mun

Post by dodger »

Hi,

I downloaded the free airport Vashon and found its a great little airport, more so i found it challenging to land in in my Alphasim Texan as its not that easy to see but fun none the less,

Good job getting the Texan up and down safely Roger. I'd be challenged to fly a Cessna 150 there.

Thanks Brian, for all the years i spent flying out of Seattle in FS2004 i really had not taken any notice of that Island until starting with FSX a while ago and flying in this ORBX Scenery now is really bringing things to life,

The only thing i find with ORBX is the cost i'm afraid but perhaps Missus Santa might leave me something :dunno:

Cheers,

Roger.

Hi Roger. Beautiful shots and that Texan looks lovely.

Vashon is a delightful little field, isn't it? I often pop in there if I'm flying around the area but as you say, you've got to keep your wits about you on landing because of the trees. My first time I came in over the top of the trees instead of round them, went off the end of the runway, down the slope, through the fence and came to a stop on the road where I promptly got hit by an articulated truck!

Have you had a chance to read the Vashon manual yet? Did you know that by using the 2S1 control panel you can select the airshow which gives you lots more static aircraft and tents and an appreciative crowd? Also, the trees aren't autogen so don't change colour in the seasons but you can also change that in the control panel and get nice fall colours (colors?). There are some photos of the real place compared to screenshots in the manual and you have to study them to see which are real!

The freeware airport also comes with another strip a few miles south called Wax Orchard WA69 which is even harder to find. Sorry if you know all this already but I don't want you missing out. See you there soon.

Ian :)

Hi Ian,

Thanks for that info, no i have not looked at any of that but i will,

At the moment i am just using ORBX free PNW but i will get the full one,

That new airport on its way Bella Coola in BC looks great and of course the more they bring out things for this area the more you want it!!

I installed the other two airports CA CEN4 and CA CEJ4 in Alberta to fly between but the scenery is about as interesting as England :hide:

Cheers,

Roger.

PS, as usual [for me] Ian i should have looked at the manual first!! Thanks.

Hi Roger :hello:

That's a smashing looking airfield. I noticed there are a couple of freebies for PNW at ORBX and I was tempted to download them both! However, a rebuild of FSX is keeping me otherwise engaged at the moment 8)

What prop texture are you using on the Harvard? Mine looks rubbish compared to that *-)

Hello Dave,

I am using the texture, Prop_Super_King_Air.2 from the AFG_B300, renamed it Prop_2 in both the Havard and the Texan,

I think that model by Alphasim is one of their best IMHO.

Hope this helps,

Roger.

Hi Roger :hello:

I don't have that particular model I'm afraid. Would it be possible for you to post here/email it? I know that Alpha posted fixes to prop textures when the SP1/SP2 fun and games was going on but I was still very firmly in FS9 at the time and missed them. Of course, Alpha are now long gone although resurrected as Virtavia.

Hi Rog' :)

That was a little more complicated than I'd hoped but the texture works fine. When I went into the Harvard texture folder, there were already about 5 different textures in there I'd tried and wasn't too keen on  I don't care for the B300 so that's been disgarded ;)
