ORBX FTX North America

Post by speedbird591 »

Meanwhile, back in one of Orbx's more established and less controversial regions ...

For those of us who enjoy flying in the north western mountain regions there is some exciting news. The next FTX release is Bella Coola BC airfield and surrounding mountains for the Pacific Fjords region. It is somewhere between Stewart and Ketchikan. I'll have that one - deffo!

Following that, the next region release will be Southern Alaska which they are hoping to release before the end of the year but it may roll over into early 2013. That will extend my FTX scenery from south of Portland right through to north of Anchorage and the Northern Rockies east to Calgary and Edmonton.

Also in the pipeline is Felts Field, Spokane for the Northern Rocky Mountain region. The preview shots look totally amazing. You have to be registered on the forum to view: Felts Field Spokane

EDIT: You know what? I've just had another look at these screenshots and I really recommend registering on the forum just to see them. They are stunning. It's what ORBX is all about as far as I'm concerned. The region is a rough canvas over which to fly but the airports are works of art!

You are right - they are wonderful !

Ian, which US / Canadian Orbx regions do you have ? I have Pacific North West and Pacific Fjords ( and of course non-Orbx Tongass Fjords ). Have you got any of the others ?

Hi Paul. I think it might be the best add-on I've seen

I've got Pacific North West, Northern Rocky Mountains, Pacific Fjords and FSAddon's Tongass Fjords. I'll probably add Central Rocky Mountains in the next few days and then wait for Southern Alaska. Also being worked on are Northern California and Southern Rocky Mountains! I don't think I'll get England in the foreseeable future as I've got more than enough landscape to keep me busy for the rest of my life

These two threads contain plans of the coverage of each area in case you're interested. The first is the lower regions and the second shows how Southern Alaska borders on to Tongass Fjords and merges with it.

Thanks for that Ian. I probably won't buy any new Orbx scenery thats south of PNW but I will definitely pick up Southern Alaska. I hope from there they move even further north into the high Arctic, as I really like winter landscapes. :) Whats Northern Rockies like ?

Ahhhh Spokane, got stuck overnight there once upon a time on the way to Yellowstone. Reminded me of a dreary weekend in Haverford West in 1974, but not half as much fun. :|

I'm hoping the same. The proposed scenery doesn't go as far north as Denali NP and Mt. McKinley with the bush flying centre of Talkeetna so there's a good case for a further expansion in that direction and as far as Fairbanks. And then west there's Nome and the Aleutians. Oh, there's no end to the possibilities  Fortunately, with Holger Sandmann as one of their top bods, he lives in BC and we know he has a passion for the icy wastes ... :worried:

Meanwhile, you ask about the NRM. I haven't explored much. I wanted it for Spokane as the base for Cascade Airways for which I have the 1-11 and 748 in that livery and also for Calgary and Banff National Park where I have spent a bit of time. I've had a quick look round and it's the usual excellent scenery but no add-on airports yet. Felts Field will be the first and I may move Cascade Airways to there

I'm exploring my regions in sequence with the Cessnas and zig-zagging up PNW from Eugene looking at the scenery and night stopping at interesting airfields (and buying some along the way  ). I'm currently at Nanaimo on Vancouver Island so still a long way to go. When I eventually reach Tongass, I'll head back down inland and explore the NRM and CRM, then I'll head back up to Alaska again. Of course I'm taking breaks to do some jet flying based at Anchorage. So I'm a very busy (and very happy) boy!

Ian :)
