2 for fifteen quid Cliffs of Dover/Wings of prey/4 Helicopt

As it says above, the 4 helicopter downloads are stand alone, one being an add-on for one of the others.

Unfortunately I got the mail from JF too and was suckered into buying Take on Helicopters and the Hinds add-on.

Why 'suckered'? Because it is for steam only and I can't use Steam.

I've asked them to help me out with a refund or discount against the boxed version, especially as I've been a loyal customer and beta tester for about 7 years, but I don't hold out much hope for that.

So if anyone wants to buy the Steam keys from me for those two, send a pm and we'll work something out ;)

I have neither activated nor downloaded either title, obviously.

Hi,

I bought Cliffs of Dover yesterday from Steam but be WARNED i can not get it to run!

It loads ok but will not start the game when you launch any missions, it starts so far then CTD, it looks like a lot of people are having the same problem from way back last year [2011] and these are folk have a lot more powerful PC's and Graphics cards than i have, obviously some can run the game but i tried all ways without success.

All though i am not very happy about it i only paid £9.99, still not cheap but it could have been £29.99 so you learn the hard way,

Cheers,

Roger.

Hi Folks,
I didn't realise they were Steam.
A few of us got C.O.D. and R.O.F. last year, and both run on my machine offline. In fact, I thought you HAD to use Steam for Rise of Flight (WW1 sim), but someone pointed out that I was wrong.
Is it saying that you have to activate on line before it will run at all?

EDIT I've just sent them a complaint, asking them to be more up front and honest in their promotions, by stating that STEAM is required.

I bought A10 Warthog & Black Shark 2 for 15 quid. Both running quite happily in DCS World entirely Steam free.

Hi Mike,

Not to pinch your original post mate but how did you get on running Cliffs of Dover?

I must admit i have a ATI 5450 card which is not the best i know but i only had my new PC last year and its enough to run FSX and Ship Simulator Extremes ok and i thought i would have a go at C o D even if i had to turn the graphics down a bit but for the game to not even Start well i will not express what i would like to say about that on here !!

Of course after i had that problem i looked on the C o D forums and like i said before found so many people having the same problem and quiet a lot of people had twice my Pc power and top of the range graphics cards. Ubisoft don't seem to want to fix it either which is a shame,

As for Steam i had not used it before last year when i had Railworks3 and most of the time i played off line, i suppose to be fair if there are any updates for your particular game Steam installs them automatically and you can choose if you want the update or not and i have not had any problems with Steam in fact you can get some good bargains on there from time to time.

Cheers,

Roger.

Hi Angus,

Now that's a bargain, i wish i could run DSC A10 but unless i spend another load of money upgrading i have had it!!

Going by the Video's i have seen of it its a great looking Sim, mind you off hand i think i'm right there are about 650 pages in the Manual!! that will keep you busy,

Roger.

Hi Roger,
When I first bought CoD, I had a pentium with a fairly good video card, and had the same problem as you. It would sit there showing a beautiful opening screen, telling me it was loading, but that was it.
I'll have to check my specs and post them for you. CoD runs fine, but my skills are lacking, and I often can't find the enemy in the clouds. I guess that makes it real as I never underwent real combat training, only did paet of the private pilots licence course before running out of dollars. I promised SWMBO that I'd only be here a mmoment, so I'll post again tomorrow.

I get the same problem with COD. Runs for about 10 secs and then locks up solid :dunno:

Hi Roger, a lot to learn for both DCS games & I'm not sure I really have the time which is why I'd never have paid the full price for them but at £15 for the two it's a steal really. Hopefully the DCS P-51D module won't come on sale too soon or I'll probably end up with that as well...
