FSX Port Over
Hi,
Having just started with FSX and have a lot of aircraft in F9 is there a Utility that could move some of my payware aircraft over,
The thing i have noticed when i have tried moving some is the Gauges, i assume because of the make up of them from that used in FS2004, i am thinking of the Aerosoft DH Beaver which i have in F9, the one in FSX is great but its only with floats, i have looked on Aerosoft's site to see if there is any help but i'm either looking in the wrong place or there isnt anything other than buying the addon again which i am reluctant to do,
Any help would be appreciated,
Cheers,
Roger.

Re: FSX Port Over
Hi Roger,
Most of the payware ones can't be copied over as they usually (although not always) have some copyright protection built it. Some of the payware guys allow you to install either the FS9 or FSX versions so you could simply re download the FSX version and install that, but others require you to buy the FSX version, as there is no upgrade, not bad if its a new native FSX model, but very bad if its just the same model packaged for FSX

Re: FSX Port Over
Hi Roger
The Aerosoft Beaver came with wheels and floats mate.. both FS9 and FSX versions as far as I'm aware
Are you saying you're not sure about porting it over (porting is such a posh word isn't it.. drag 'n' drop is much better) as it's an FS9 model? I have the FS9 Beaver so I'll drag it over and see what happens
EDIT: Err, it dawned on me what you were saying. The FSX model is great but only comes with floats and you want to fly one with wheels. D'oh!
I've dragged the wheeled FS9 version over and there are 2 things I've noticed. I get a warning off one of the sound files (no big issue) but more importantly, I can't see out of the vc glass
Am currently looking for a substitute
EDIT#2..
If you can't see out in the VC, try this REPLACEMENT
Find the original in your Beaver texture folders.. DHC2_texture01.bmp and rename it to DHC2_texture01orig.bmp (or whatever you like) then open the zip and drag'n'drop the replacement into your chosen texture folder. If you like it, do the same with each other texture folder

Re: FSX Port Over
Hi Roger
,
This is mainly in relation to Dave's comment about not being able to see through the windows...
I don't think that I have any payware aircraft, but some aircraft folders include special files to use if you're having trouble with Acceleration displaying things correctly.
Suggest you look at all the files in the folder, and see if anything fits the bill.
And off topic, I remember the pharmacist asking his duck customer if he wanted the condoms put on his bill. "No, I'm not that kind of duck," came the reply.

I am waiting for the Decathlon by Flight 1 to arrive as i bought it at half price and am looking forward to flying that in FSX so i will enjoy that for a while,

Re: FSX Port Over
Hi Roger
The gauges for the DHC2 are in the FS9 gauges folder. I'm on the wrong pc so can't check at the moment but there are about 4 of the little blighters and they all begin something like ASDHC2xxx.gau. Find these, plop them into the panel folder in the Beaver in FSX and Bob's your uncle. You may also need to put the DC3 gauge into the Beaver panel folder too as it requires this for the radio
After all that, the one thing I didn't care for much was/is the prop blur inside the cockpit which is a tad OTT for my liking. Won't stop me continuing to fly it in FSX though. I may try and find an alternative
EDIT:.. I've popped onto the flying pc again Roger. The THREE gauges you need to look for are ASDHC2.gau, ASDHC2_Switch.gau and ASDHC2_Trim.gau. Drag copies of these from your FS9 gauges folder and drop them into the Beaver panel folder in FSX
Oh.. and drop a copy of Douglas_DC3.cab (found in the DC3 panel folder in FS9) into the Beaver panel folder too

Re: FSX Port Over
Hi Rog'
Glad to have been of help
Prop textures on port-overs is one of the big bugbears as they often become invisible against scenery (trees and clouds for example). Sometimes, a quick swap will make things look better though it still won't change the invisibility problem as the prop is part of the model and it's how it's made that causes how it looks if that makes sense. As FSX has a default Beaver, perhaps the prop off that would look better
I'll have a look today
EDIT:.. I think we're out of luck with the Beavers prop mate. It's not a separate texture but part of the wing bmp

Hi Dave,
Again, thanks for your help and like i said before at least i have the Beaver i can now land anyware!
Cheers,
Roger.
Edit,
If its any help Dave, after trying many many props i find the one out of the free AFG B300, [prop_super_king_air.2] about the best, even better when its flat out!
I tried using DXTBmp on some of the props but i did'nt have a lot of luck.
