VFR Photo Scenery Install Problem

Post by RobDob »

Morning all

I have the England & Wales VFR scenery by Horizon installed on my machine for FSX. I just bought the Orkney & Shetland edition and am having trouble installing it!

At first, it would get to the last part of the install & fail. This happened several times. I worked around that by using task manager to kill the installation program when the error message appeared, so it wouldn't roll back the install.

Now I have the problem of adding it to my scenery library; when I select the folders in FSX I cannot add them! When I select it each time, each sub floder opens until I have a folder open with nothing showing in it!

As I hardly ever use FSX I'm a bit rusty on this sort of trouble-shooting!!! Can anybody help?!??! I really want to fly around Shetland!! Lol

Many thanks

Hi Dave

I've looked around but cannot find a fix that works for me, so I wonder if I'm missing something or just doing it wrong!! Very frustrating! There are posts from 2010 & 2011 with people reporting this installation problem, and it seems the publisher hasn't fixed it!

I would send it back, but I live in Qatar so its not very easy!! (Bought it when I was back on 'holiday'!)

You could try copying all files from the DVDs to a spare folder on your hard drive and run the installer from there.

From your description, I assume you are running Windows 7? The add scenery command is slightly different from XP or Vista. When you browse to the folder, click "OK" then click in the white space in the right pane.

Sorry; yes, running Windows 7.

Not tried that, will give it a go.

Thanks ;)

Hi chaps,

Its the age old FSX adding scenery issue (in Vista / Win7)

Go to scenery library, add area.

Navigate to the folder where you have the scenery installed (for example d:\GenX\area1)

Click on OK AND then LEFT CLICK in the white space in the explorer window where you have just navigated to.

An illustration on adding scenery.

Browse to the folder and click "OK":

Left click anywhere on the white space:

It should then appear in the library list:
