Hello everyone, not been around for a while so thought I would say hello with a few I took today at the cold war jets open day.

I took hundreds (most are shocking...) but these are just the first to be pulled from the camera.

I went today, plus wife and eldest daughter and two of her cousins (kids in for free!).
What a fantastic day out it is. It never fails to shock, how loud some of these aircraft are when you can get so close.
The lightning with afterburners is hilariously loud, way beyond maximum noise levels.

And they just trust you to wander about and not get yourselves hurt. It's wonderful.

You're right about the Lightning Dave. I couldn't even hear the car alarms going off afterwards, my ears were ringing too much!

I wasn't going to go but changed my mind at the last minute, I'm glad I did.

The safety rules were relaxed but what a breath of fresh air (or jet fuel fumes) the Beechcraft 18 taxing mixed in with the queue of cars waiting to leave at the end said it all!

Yes, ear plugs are a must for photographers! Else ear damage is quite likely.
I'm always down the noisy end, but I do have to regulate it with fingers over the ear holes.

The one that surprised me most is the Canberra.
I thought it would be fairly tame, but the mid range frequency hits my ears real hard. I knew what was coming this time, but last time it caused me physical pain!

It's the relaxed safety rules that make it so good. I'd rather be at this show than any proper flying display, just because of the close access you get.
I only hope they can keep it going like it is. And they get a VC10 into the collection soon. Hated seeing those dead 10s stuck over the far side.

That Hunter T7 has 208 Squadron insignia on its nose...Lovely!

OK it must have been after I left and the Squadron moved to Aden...The T7 that I flew in Kenya on 208 Squadron was XL597. It is nice to see that nose insignia still used as we invented it in Kenya when we first re-equipped with the Hunter FGA9s. I've also seen it on the Hawks at Valley
