I blame French

No not the French, but General French.

If he had followed the lead of the Anglo-German British Royal Family and joined up with the German General staff in WWI and gubbed the French instead of getting bogged down in a head-on battle with the Germans, the cheese eating surrender monkeys would have caved in immediately so the War would have ended 4 years earlier saving millions of lives, Russia would not have been taken over by the Bolsheviks (saving the whole Warsaw Pact subjugation of Eastern Europe for decades after the WWII that would not have happened but I get ahead of myself), the Versailles Treaty would not have bankrupted Germany in the 20s, Hitler would have remained a marginal nutter (like ...... (fill in the gap ) ), WWII would not have happened - saving more millions of lives, de Gaulle would not have become a French war hero (make that the only ....), Europe would not have needed rebuilding so the Common Market would not have happened, so the EU would not have grown into the monetary disaster currently waiting to happen, and gobby Frogs (see above link) would know their place (see gubbing above).

Simples. :OB:

Just the French being French, I suppose. Didn't they make some snide comment about British food on the eve of the Olympic games decision that they then lost to London the next day?

Britain had guaranteed Belgian neutrality. When that was violated by Germany, Britain was obliged to enter into the war against Germany, and Sir John French obeyed his political masters. To suggest that he, as a professional soldier, could have decided Britain's response to Germany at a diplomatic level is ludicrous.
