Service Pack Query

Post by Tomliner »

The local bowling club that I go to has recently had broadband provided.Their pc is fairly basic but for some reason has XP Professional and appears to have no service packs installed.Obviously SP3 will need to be installed but does anyone know if earlier packs need to be installed first? Also it appears the because it is XP professional, there different SP3's for different purposes. This is just a standalone pc without networking etc so it will be need the appropriate SP.
ps I am even worse at bowling than flight simming!EricT
Now at the age where I know I like girls but can't remember why!

You should be able to find everything you need here..

http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/index.html

If the problem PC has an internet connect (now they have broadband) you/they could just turn on automatic updates and it should update itself although it could take a while depending on connection speed and how many re-boots it has to do. Incidentally, if you have not tried updating an older version of XP Pro before, it will DL a bunch of updates, ask for a re-boot and then you will find it will discover newer updates for the updates it's already done (especially for Internet Explorer) so it takes several laps of the loop to complete.

Failing that you/they could grab the required updates from the above site and install them via a thumbdrive/USB stick.
