NEW- Ilyushin Il-18 (freeware)

Post by calypso »

It's been a while since we've had a major release on the Russian front (sorry).

There has been an Ilyushin Il-18 available for a while now, but this release is much more detailed and features a fully working VC and a full passenger cabin!

Very nice it is too.

With a little help from Google Translate, I did manage to power up the systems and start the APU.

Got the engines running too eventually (no Ctrl E here) and took her up for test flight.

She handles beautifully with a slow and heavy feel, as it should.

I found myself using both the 2D panel and the VC, although I am sure it would be possible to avoid the 2D panel altogether.

Autopilot is stable and I used it to make a coupled ILS approach into Geneva airport (LSGG), my home town.

Still a lot to learn, but a few more flights should do it. :)

Highly recommended.

Thanks for the HU - looks nice. It is for FS9, but I'm going to give it a go in FSX.

No worky in FSX. It looks basically okay, but suffers from that age old problem of having about half the screen black.

I do have a fix for that somewhere, but in this day & age I won't be bothering with it.

Shame, but there ya go.

IIRC you comment out (or remove) the lines "render_3d_window=1" in all the panel.cfg files.

If you "walk" down the passenger cabin, to the tail, you'll find the VIP section!

Yes, that worked very nicely, thanks - looks very nice in FSX, though the 2D panels are mostly useless.
Problem now is, although the engines are running when the aircraft loads, they shut down very quickly, regardless of what I do, and I can't find any starting controls at all. I have to just move the pointer around the VC and see what pops up on the tooltip - if there is one - so spent a long time looking around the magnificent VC panels around the cabin, but nix gefunden!

If only I knew a Russian... :dunno:

Actually, I often bump into an 'East' German guy when I walk the dog - I'm sure they had to learn Russian, so I'll ask him to take a look at the manual for me.

Alas - 'no worky in FSX' was the correct assessment - keeps causing the sim to crash.

Never mind.

Hi JD,

It's ok in my install of FSX (given the panel mod above). There's a documentation folder with instructions as part of the folder structure, but it is in Russian. However, if you follow the pictures and flip the switches in the same order you can get it going.

Cheers

Well I'll probably give it another try, then, but so far it has crashed from the VC view every time, as I've been looking around.
