Hello to all --
I have installed Rick Piper’s Vickers Viking for a down-island run. I have the aircraft’s sound aliased to (Bristol) Hercules sounds & upgrade » hercsnd.zip & brshrcug.zip. The upgrade adds a few files, in particular STARTUP and SHUTDOWN wavs. The sound.CFG has STARTUP and SHUTDOWN sections and the requisite WAV files are present (most). However, in FS9 the a/c exhibits neither startup nor shutdown sounds. But if I alias it to some other sound folder with startup and shutdown sounds, everything is A-OK.
I have analyzed the sound.cfg to the limit of my ability but cannot spot the bug. Your assistance will be appreciated.

Re: No startup nor shutdown sounds for the Viking
Hi Hawkeye
I had similar problems with the particular soundset you're using mate and have done the rounds with other sets for aircraft of this type and engine. In the end, I've started using a set made for the Bristol 170 and although not exactly the same type of Bristol engine, they work well across the board. Looking in my Viking folder, I must have 4 different soundsets but I'm pretty sure the one I now use was made by GaryJ and should be available at the Pond (aka http://www.classicbritishfiles.com)
EDIT..
Check the sound section over there and look for Viking/Varsity sound. I think it's on or around page 7

Re: No startup nor shutdown sounds for the Viking
Hi Leif (et al)
No prob with the 'plug' and I'm glad Andy's faith wasn't misguided
I've not had this problem with many aircraft but the Viking/Valetta/Varsity series do seem prone for whatever reason. I used the 'Briefing Time' Mitchell sounds for ages as they work pretty well and sound a treat but on low/closed throttle settings.. all I can hear is the prop cycling (as they would on initial startup). With the old Hercules set which it has to be said has been dragged kicking up through the sims, at low/closed throttle settings.. I hear nothing at all
Far from using the B170 set in the Viking, I think I've actually put the Viking sounds into at least 1 B170 which throws me a little when I switch types/registrations in the 170 lineup
Anyway Hawkeye.. I hope these fit the bill for you. They're certainly the best Viking sounds available (IMHO) so try them.. I don't think you'll be disappointed
Dunno how you feel about DaveG's Rapide but GaryJ is also responsible for an absolutely blinding set for that little lady. They work equally well in either FS9 or the native FSX model

Re: No startup nor shutdown sounds for the Viking
Thank you Dave B, Andy G And Leif. I D/L'd GaryJ's Viking sounds and they are definitely what the Doc. ordered. While at the CBF\sound site I also fetched GaryJ's sounds for 4-engine Herc variants as well as sounds for DH Nimrod, the Rapide and Gipsy Major. All-in-all, a very worthwhile "expedition"!
