A-1J Skyraider for FSX

Post by Flying_Junk »

Tim 'Piglet' Conrad's latest freeware offering is this spiffy Douglas A-1J Skyraider for FSX SP2/Acceleration http://flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=144271. Like all his work the attention to detail is superb, and his VCs just get better and better. The sound defaults to the stock DC3, but a decent F4U Corsair sound pack suits it very well.

That's a R-3350. Has anyone tried one of the Constellation sound sets?

I'm away from my sim machine for a couple of days but I may try editing
a Connie sound set to single engine from four.

He's going to release more variants, apparently...

Normally I don't go for single engine warbirds in MSFS, but this might be another of those rare exceptions. It looks too good not to try out. :)

Any VC pics available?

I remember the first time I saw one of these in the flesh... Two in formation at Duxford. They are bloody GINORMOUS! Wouldn't mind a go if it looks up to par.

Is it easy changing the engine sounds? Any preference to a good sound set and way to change. Thanks.

If you are not short of HD space, the easiest way is just copy the sound folder you want to use and paste it (overwriting the one supplied) into the aircraft folder of the aircraft you want to change.

Or, if you first want to test the potential sound candidate, move the sound folder into your
A-1J folder with the name "sound.test" or "sound.1" then change the entry line
"sound=" in one of the aircraft.cfg sections to "sound=test" or "sound=1".

When you select that paint of the aircraft you get the "new" sound folder. Select one
with the original "sound=" line and you get the default sound for comparison.

If anyone knows of a good 3350 soundset for FSX I'd like a copy -- the default DC3 doesnt hack it sorry :tunes:

actually the Spad has a very distinctive sound apart from any other Corncob powered aircraft - one heard NEVER forgotten.

I was there at Duxford when they had two there. I was sat in a deck chair right behind one of them and got blasted by fumes and grit when they fired up the engine and ran it up
