Joystick Woes

On a recent flight the aircraft (Viscount) started to roll to the right, this occurred nearly all the way through the trip from Jersey to Heathrow and had a job getting there, after landing I tried the BAC 1-11 and the same thing happened, put full right hand aileron on but continued to roll left. Went straight to the properties of my game controller whilst in FS with the stick over full to the right and it showed that it was working correctly so why does it fail in FS even though I have re-calibrated it and cannot locate the fault?

Is there something in FS that could be causing this problem?

Hi Nigel

You could always try removing your FS9 CFG and let it build another one.....that'll be all default settings so see what happens then

You can always copy the relevent bits of your old cfg back in afterwards

Hi Garry, tried that but it did not work however I think I have got it sorted (I hope) uninstalled the Logitech Driver for the Joystick then plugged joystick in and allowed Windows to take over the driver side of things and can now fly straight, I think the problem occurred through the original driver software (Logitech) and this would have caused the Viscount to suddenly go into a left hand turn into oblivion.

TBH Nigel.. unless you have the sort of super-dooper control device that requires it's own driver, I'd not bother loading it as Windows is more than capable of detecting the vast majority of devices for which it has it's own drivers. Of course, there are exceptions to the rule but your stick in particular doesn't need an additional driver loaded.

TBh....using my state of the Art £37.99 Joystick that replaced my equally Sooper Dooper £30 one....I've never loaded a driver since FS.98 Sidewinder Days.

Plug it in.......Windows says it's found it, then it's ready and away I go

That way if there is a problem I can at least eliminate loaded on drivers.

Thanks Dave and Garry, for some reason I always thought that I should use the driver supplied but obviously I was wrong. Have done a number of test flights on different aircraft and now all appear to fly as one would expect. Only have to appologise for the previous Thread in the Crew Room regarding loss of control as it was the driver of the joystick that sent me for an unscheduled bath!!

Sometimes when my joystick (Sidewinder) has gone haywire for no apparent reason during a flight, I unplug it from the USB port and the plug it in again. This has often fixed the problem - don't know why but if it works I am not about to worry about it.

Sometimes my mouse freezes and I do the same

I guses the active data in the unit is dumped with the break in the connection and it goes back to start default...a sort of reset

Hi Nigelb, tried that as the a/c was at 90 deg and descending.....fast!! unfortunately that did not cure it so got rid of the driver and now rely on Windows.
