Hi Guys,
I've finally installed my additional 500GB hard drive which has been kicking around my study for the best part of a year. It's intended as a dedicated FS9 and FSX drive so I can enjoy both 'worlds'. My question is, what's the best way of partitioning it, if at all ? My FSX is at SP2 or whatever it's called but when I re-install it, I will be loading the Acceleration package. FSX scenery includes Horizon GenX already and I have Real Environment Xtreme waiting in the wings to be loaded with this new instal.
My current FS 'folder' sizes are as follows :-
FS9 = 31GB
FS9 Add-on Scenery = 5GB
FSX = 18GB
FSX add-on scenery = 61GB
The new drive is currently showing a capacity of 465gb before formatting and partitioning etc. Should I make seperate partitions for each of the above ? Should I have seperate partitions for the two sims and one for both of the scenery folders? Should I have two partitions only with the sim and scenery on same partition for each? Should I leave it as one large drive with no partitions as I've heard partitioning can slow things down?
FSX will be a complete new install but with regards FS9, can I copy and paste my FS9 folder onto the new drive without re-installing and then just change my shortcut path?
Regards
John

Re: New Hard Drive for FS9/FSX
Hello John
Just spoke to my local computer guru (who just happens to sitting at the nect dispatch desk) he says NO --there are instructions at Microsoft on exactly how to install and run both FS9 and FSX on the same HD .
Hope that helps
Leif
BTW -- he says it also tells you how to set up freestanding scenery for both.

Re: New Hard Drive for FS9/FSX
Hi Leif,
I've kept it as one large drive. Loaded FSX and Acceleration for now, will load GenX over next couple of days. FS9 will get loaded once I've finished playing with FSX.
