Odd behaviour of FS9

Problem 1
On a couple of occasions recently when I have selected FS9 from the shortcut on my desktop a message has appeared thus:
"Not enough memory to run Flight Simulator" shortly afterwards the program disappears.
Problem 2:
Looking at my file structure I found with the category 'Documents/User' a file labelled 'Most recent documents' This seemed to be full of all sorts of files and zips together with numerous shortcuts to the panel and acft cfgs that I have been modifying recently. Please note that after I have modified an acft or pnl cfg I religiously delete all the previous versions of panels and acft cfgs that I have been working on. I cannot understand why these 'shortcuts' to deleted files remain in this 'most recent files' section.
Can I safely delete the whole of the contents of 'most recently used files'?
Problem 3:
One used to be able to adjust the 'let windows manage virtual memory' by entering certain numbers and thus stopping the Windows system virtual memory 'ballooning' and using all the available computing capacity, sometimes beyond the computer capacity to process all the available data - that resulted sometimes in hesitation and sometimes in a CTD.
I cannot remember how to adjust the virtual memory limits. Perhaps that is no longer possible with XP, FS9.
