Help needed with FS9 Crash

Post by WhisperJet »

Hi All,

Maybe you can help me out of a cold sweat right now.

For pure curiosity I downloaded Premaircraft's Do228 tonight. After a disappointing yet short experience around the Caribbean I decided not to end up my session and boarded my beloved OneEleven. Everything seemed to work out right - until I changed sight. For the first time in my life FS9 crashed.

Same after restarting the Sim. All works out well until I change sight to outside view -> and boom, crashdown. There must be a connection cause up to today I never had any problems! I don't mind getting that dornier crap off my harddrive again, I swear I wont miss it one second. But how can I do that? And will that help? Or is there any other thing I can do?

Please, if anyone has an idea what to do... I want MikeFox back!
:-( :dunno: :brick: :-( :@ :doho: :$ :-( :dunno: :@ :prayer:

Hi,

Is the PAD installed via an exe? If it is, re-install it to a dummy FS9 folder to see exactly what it placed where. It's possible that it may have overwritten something with an older version or something. If I find an aircraft which wants to instal via an exe, I always adopt this procedure and then drag and drop the files manually into my proper FS9 folder. I have found a few issues in the past with fssound.dll where someone helpfully includes a version which is older than a previous version already installed. If that's the case I ignore their enclosed version and stick with what I've got. Switching views also switches the soundset, it's a shot in the dark but worth a look perhaps.

Regards

John

Thank you, John for your advice!

I will try that procedure over the weekend. I must admit I'm the absolute USER, so this will be a premiere! I am always pretty nervous of doing something wrong!

However when I have located the files in the dummy folder I will just go to the main fs9 folder, search these files and delete them via right mouse click? Will that be fine?

Many thanks again,

Nick

Nick

It may well not be as simple as that. The problem mentioned above is that of replacing a file already installed in your working FS9 setup with a different file of the same name from the Dornier installation. It may be a different file entirely (unlikely) or an older version of the same file (very likely). Just deleting all those files may well make other FS add ons you had previously crash as well. As in the case of the fsound.dll file mentioned in a post above. If you just plain delete the file, other previous additions won't be able to find it again.

If possible, provide a list of the files installed by the Dornier installer script. Particularly anything that lives in a folder called Modules. we may be able to see what's what then.

Many many thanks, Guys,

I will do that over the weekend.

I remember the installer asked me if I was to overwrite existing files such as something with "shines" etc. I always said "no"...
But no matter I will extract the whole stuff to a dummy folder and make a list!

In the mean time many many thanks again and in advance for your help!

E mail PAD and ask their advice as to what is over written etc I am sure they would be interested in this problem as they have an extensive hanger and would hate to think a mistake could cause any problems.

Hi Tony,

good idea, I will do that in addition to the above procedures!

I also own their beech 1900d and have never had any problems with that one though...

Cheers,

nick.

First thing to do is to surely tell us what file caused the crash. FS9 will usually tell you the offending file and whilst that may not mean a lot on the face of it, it may help others to understand the problem. I have a list here of crashes I have encountered in the past and how they were caused/resolved, no doubt others can help similarly. You can also Google "FS9 crash ntdll.dll" or whatever which often comes up trumps.

Hello again!

First of all sorry for not keeping you guys posted - after all that advice I got you. But a flu and then a working trip have kept me too busy... I just wanted to drop a note that the problem is solved. I have followed the above procedure and have checked and removed some of the double files. All works well now again.

Many thanks again to all of you for your kind advice!

Best,

Nick
