Literally tearing my hair out over this one!
Got the above product last night. Followed the installation instructions (Never usually do), CD first, then plug in the receiver, then the keyboard and mouse get batteries.
Nothing
Not even the clunking noise of a new thing being plugged into the USB port. On inspection of the intellimouse/keyboard thing it says that both the mouse and keyboard have a strong wireless signal. Even with the receiver unplugged and batteries out they both still have a strong signal.
I have tried various uninstalls and reinstalls to no avail. Is it a knackered receiver or am I being a complete biff about something? Hunted round Google and all I can see it people saying they get some cutouts from the keyboard or mouse.

That sounds wrong, could they be detecting another network?Even with the receiver unplugged and batteries out they both still have a strong signal.

Disregard all above. Was a lose connection on the receiver. Only by firing up Ubuntu and getting so frustrated a attacked the receiver did it come to life!

Re: Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 6000
Hi Tom -
A few years ago, when I was being a friendly help person, I had a client who bought one of these for her HP desktop, one of those home entertainment centre things. It was an absolute bu**er to get working, because the instructions were so poorly written. I added some notes to the instructions, but when I got called back for the same job after the batteries ran out, she had lost the instructions
So this is from ancient memory, but I hope it will help.
The receiver unit came with a double USB/PS2 cable. The lady had actually bought a PS2/USB adapter, thinking that the mouse would need one and the keyboard another. There was nothing in the instructions about this, but it turned out to be either/or, apparently because the receiver was deciding what was talking to it.
The order of battle was critical. When the receiver was connected, it dawdled through some self testing with various flashing lights etc, and then settled down, I think to three steady lights. Once that point was reached, I had to press the reset button on the keyboard - the button was one of those recessed ones you need a pencil to press. That produced some more flashing lights on the receiver and then I think it settled to two fixed and a steady blink, at which point you rattled some keys and the blink changed to a flicker, showing that the receiver was receiving the keyboard signal. Then you went through the same rigmarole for the mouse.
It worked well enough once you got it going, but it seemed to eat batteries - the lady finished up buying one of those packs of rechargeables, which include a charger.
I apologise for the lack of detail - it was largely trial and error to get it going the first time. Once I realised where the instructions had been misleading me I added some notes, but as I said earlier, the lady managed to lose them altogether !
ATB, and Good Luck.
