New nVidia Drivers (181.20)

Post by ChrisHunt »

nVidia have released a new driver for their graphics cards - version 181.20. First reports indicate performance improvements in FSX and nVidia also quote some substantial performance improvements for other games.

Downloading as I type - will provide feedback when I get a chance to play.

Regards,
Chris

Edit for glaring error - sorry about that!

Okay, first impressions are favourable. Without rigerous before and after testing it's difficult to say precisely what performance improvements there are but frame rates are rock solid at 30fps for the flight I did (Rick's Hawk from Warton using Gen-X and with fair weather) where previously there had been the occaisional dip into the mid twentys. I suspect though that it will be other games that see the best improvements. I'll be trying out Far Cry 2 later - I've been trying to run with DX10 using the previous drivers which has resulted in fairly frequent ctd with a GPU recovery error so hopefully this release will fix that.

Regards,
Chris

I don't really understand this...I'm using 94.24...So how can 81.20 be relevant?

Well the three digit numbered Nvidia drivers have not so far suited my 7800 GS card, but this one is looking like an exception...No speed increase but very stable...Free of any glitches, even through the boot process. I'll keep a beady eye on it but I think this one might be a keeper :)

Thanks Peter, I remember what the last update did, slowed FS9 down a treat!! :doho:

Will download tomorrow as I have the same card as you and see if there is any noticeable difference.

Nigel.
