Network / internet troubles

Post by TobyV »

Got a problem trying to connect my old (but with all my flightsim stuff on it!) PC to the net via my Orange livebox (essentially a router). It connects to my current PC via the network socket and appropriate cable. Seemingly, once the livebox itself has my account details stored in its ROM, it happily connects to the net and I can then access the internet via it over the mini "LAN" (with this PC).

So I thought it should be fairly easy to get my old PC connecting via it - infact I'm sure I've done it before only its not playing ball. Thus far I have checked my connection settings in Windows XP, ensured the network card was fully enabled in the BIOS and was able to ping it in the command window. With it still not working, I went on some "geek" forum where someone had suggested to someone else in my predicament that they do "netsh int ip reset" and "netsh winsock reset catalog". Now its a right mess as I didnt fully understand what I was doing :doho: and it cant seem to assign itself an IP address (it was always happily on 192.168.0.1 before).

If anyone can get my out of this fine mess so I can get on and finish my scenery (and maybe even fly into it!) it'd be much appreciated! :D

Hi Toby. You definatly don't use NET SH commands to get IP addresses. Righty, Firstly is in XP SP2 or 3?

Have now traced the error to a registry entry being missing or corrupt for my network card (Windows suggested I should uninstall and reinstall it) and am hence off in search of a driver for it :brick: We'll get there in the end
