Trident thrust problem

Post by simondix »

I have downloaded the new updated models on the Trident 2 and 3. When I get a new aircraft I shove it at the end of the runway at KSEA and take off for a test flight.

On the T3 I could not get 100% thrust and not get the booster engine to work. The thrust index only read 95% and throttles would not go above 70%.

What am I doing wrong. I did not have this problem on the old model. The booster 'switch' at the bottoom of the panel does not seem to work.
According to the flying tips their is a booster section on the overhead, but apart from anti icing I cannot find it.

I was trying to take off fully loaded and a full tank. Flaps were on 10. But the flaps should not affect the thrust.

Hello Mate

I think you'll have to wait for DM to clear this up. Although I've downloaded the new model.. I've not taken it for a whizz yet. The boost engine IS on the overhead but not on the main overhead panel from what I remember. There should be an icon to open a separate window for it. I've not used the boost engine often (probably only at Cyprus.. just in case!) but I'd have thought KSEA would've been long enough to get off the deck without it  You using FS9 or X ??

You need to start the booster:
Click the electrics icon, and click the left hand switch, then the 'start'

This will fire up the booster. While you're there, you can flick the top temp switches... just in case :o

Then, just flick the booster for a sparkling taekoff (See the switch here on main panel)

This is the new T3... thanks DM! :flying:

Worked fine thankyou very much. One further question, once the booster cuts out automatically is it alright to switch its' starter off on the electrics panel?

Hi Simon,

you should switch its starter off once its started. Theres a very good set of instructions for it here.... http://www.dmflightsim.co.uk/html/Trident/Manual.htm

These are also included with the model, well worth a read ;-)

No problem with that Simon, just turn it off once you're stabilised in normal climb, via the master switch.

I think before you exceed a certain speed, when it will shut down automatically. The intake doors should remain open automatically for two minutes after shutdown (to stop the boost engine melting)...Not sure if this is modelled.

Hi Simon

From your original post, I'd guess the temperature was a little high at KSEA. Any idea what it was?
I've just had a go at KSEA, about 28 deg C, 29.91 inhg & it managed 98% on the Thrust Index (Index number 125).
I recall that over 97% on the TI was acceptable & certainly at KSEA, with the booster ON it got me up safely... eventually.
The thrust index number is got by clicking the top half of the gauge & it varies according to temperature and pressure. Normally it is around 150.

The latest model has a correction that does result in slightly higher engine temperatures.
Also the 'Top Temp' system is now ON by default, which is what is restricting your throttle selection.
Flicking the Top Temp switches up will have overidden the system and let you select more thrust. But you will possibly then be overheating the engines.

If the temperature is high, don't forget that you can also get a boost out of the Water Injection system too (single switch operation).
The same conditions at KSEA, I got over 100% with the Top Temp On & the Water injection on.
There's some debate as to whether the T3 should have water injection, but it's there in FS land if you need it.

Thank you everybody for your help. It was me again. I did the top temp switches and everything was fine. When I did my TR's in the Trdient I didn't need the boosters. so it was all new to me. I read the manuals but looked on the wrong overhead.
