The Queen of the skies is back...

Post by TSR2 »

Having rebuilt my system from the ground up to weeks ago, I decided it was time take take my favourite big jet out again. I know I go on about FS9 models in FSX being heavier on the frame rate, but as my system seems to have been running noticeably faster since the rebuild, I thought I'd take her out again. As I've mentioned in other threads I have almost all of the WOAI packages installed and find then really easy on frame rates, so thought I'd give it a go in the mighty 10.

A short flight from Schipol to Gatwick, real world weather and FEX, then over the UK its as before, plus Gen X Scenery V2 and Gary Summons free version of Gatwick.

I have to say, I'm really pleased with the frame rates, and its great to really enjoy her again. Frame limiter was off and I was getting 15 - 22 FPS over a pretty busy Schipol and Gatwick.

Of course the VC10 is Mr. Maltby's finest... Thanks David. :)

Fantastic screenies, Ben. Makes me go all wobbly. Is there any chance of a higher res copy of that second one as a wallpaper - it would crop very nicely onto my 1280 x 800 laptop screen?

I think the VC10 is totally beautiful and is incredibly rewarding to fly, but if I were picking DM's finest creation I think I'd plump for the 1-11. It is just as pleasant to fly but has much more detail and swapping into the VC view adds a more realistic dimension. Like DaveB, I prefer to fly the tricky bits from a 2D panel but when I'm in cruise or in replay I love to immerse myself in 3D. To fly properly in a VC, I think I'll need to grow another right arm!

But I'm picking at straws - they are all beautiful to fly and to look at.

Hi Ian,

I think they are all just 1024 x 768 as I tend to fly windowed when I'm farting about between apps, but I can send you it when I get home if you like.

Re Dm's stuff, The Comet and 1-11 are superb, ther is no doubt, but I prefer the Trident and VC10, because I love the airplanes. So no doubt the comet and
1-11 models are more advanced, but real world I love the VC10 and Trident so thats what i fly. :)

Its the same with Ricks stuff, I've never been a Viscount fan, so I rarely fly it, The Vanguard on the other hand is a real mans prop. Its built like a tank, and I love whine on the tyne... it just feels like a prop for grown ups. (No disrespect to anyone who prefers the Viscount ;-) )

Cheers Mr. T... its my favourite too. No photoshop either (as its not something I have) but the cloud / sea effects in this FEX thing are excellent IMHO.

It would spoil it to stretch it. I'll just enjoy it as it is - cheers anyway, Ben.
