Flight Simulator Guide

Post by Garry Russell »

This seems to be a newish site

New to me at least

Most of the sections seem empty at the moment and the reviews are limited.......one for my favourites as I think it will build niceley :) .

DM's VC 10 is reviewed as is the HJG Boeing 707

It is interesting to see comparisons from the same site of Addictive/DM VC 10 and Captain Sim/HJG Boeing 707

In both cases the Freeware has no cons  .......

I know the site, and the "guide" to eliminate smoke from the VC10 is certainly NOT necessary!...

But at least it is a site with good intentions ;-)

It's open to coment at the bottom which means that with the right imput the potential is there :)

What impressed me the most was the reviews of payware products seemingly are not driven by favour to the developer and the personal opinions......which are always just that, are side by side with the freeware and even if miguided at times are at least honest.

Hmm..

I have all 4 models you mention there Garry and certainly couldn't put hand on heart and say the freeware models had no 'Cons'. I don't want to deride the HJG 707 in any way as it's free but that's at least one plus over the CS model ;-) As for the other 2.. well, I'm not going there again

Thanks for all the nice comments! I am the webmaster of flightsimulatorguide.com :)

True, as you probably have seen, we're working on a new layout and scripts. At the moment, there is no point in writing new reviews as we are working on a php/mysql powered script that will make it easy to add, edit and remove reviews and at the same time add more features like user rating, download counter, etc. We're also working on the other dynamic sections like the forums, gallery and perhaps a video section with the ability for users to upload videos. This will take some time as we are with only me and a moderator.

That is our intention, to offer a complete list of available aircraft with reviews that are written to inform people about the features of these aircraft. Ofcourse, sometimes mistakes happen, we usually edit the review when people comment with something relevant. Sometimes this means we make a few developers not happy, like abacus for example (although a lot of people seem to agree with our findings regarding abacus products hehe).

Hi Chrizx

Welcome to the Forum.

Thanks you for popping by. :)

It was the honesty of your site along with the ability for anyone to comment if they wish that impressed me.

As I indicated, too many reviews are so clearly biased that in reality it has meant reviews were often not worth reading.

Here is something different and even though in early stages worth a look and it is up to everyone to help make such a site works.

Some things have to be said and shame if some folks get upset but in the end that will be for the common good. So often folk complain about obvious errors in payware that should have been seen and have often purchased on a good reviews which of course forgets to mention that.

I think you read it correctly but to make it clear when I mentioned personal opinions which are always just that.and perhaps misguided that was a general term to anyones personal opinion not specific to any there. We all have our favourites and also things we are willing to let go where others may not want to know purely on that same point.....pet hates so to speak. This is where the comments come into play.

Hopefully it will develop into a one stop shop for looking up the best downloads of a particular type, payware or freeware....how often do we see that question?

All the best with it

Garry: Thanks for the reply

Rick: The gallery is not working anymore due to a recent mysql upgrade of the server. I will remove the script soon and get rid of the error message.

Hi Chrizx,

I stumbled across your site the other day and have just stumbled across this thread :worried: :-#

As has already been said, it looks good, has lots of potential and the ability to interact and comment is very welcome ;-)

I hope you get up and running soon as it's obviously a site worth visiting.

ATB,

Derek ;-)
