Re: two monitors and FSX
Tony, I'm no expert in dual monitor FSX (it had to be pointed out to me that you could drag gauges to the other screen) however it sounds like you're running in Full Screen mode, if you press ALT + ENTER when you're in FSX it should go to windowed mode. This'll give you an FSX window to place where you want e.g. Maximise on one of your screens and let you see whatever you want on your other monitor. There's also an option somewhere to stop FSX pausing when it's not the focus window which may or may not be handy.

Re: two monitors and FSX
Thanks for the reply but I have tried it in "windowed mode" as well with no joy, fs9 runs in fullscreen mode and lets me do it?

Re: two monitors and FSX
Are your two monitor identical Tony? I seem to remember this being a requirement. Not sure though.
Ben.

Yo-diddly-ho
Unless something has changed with SP2.. you can run FSX on 2 monitors (which don't have to be the same) but definately only in windowed mode otherwise you'll get an all black second monitor. When we did that Dams raid a year or so ago.. I had FSX windowed on my 19"crt and FlightSimCommander up on the 17"tft and this alone took me yonks to sort
With the many (so called) advantages FSX has over FS9.. it's dual monitor capability is P-poor.. it just doesn't like doing it ;-)
Glad you started playing with FSX yet Tony??
The much heralded MP function (and I've been one of the heralders!) seems to have slid into the mire too. Ben and I tried to set up a session yesterday and after much effort.. it never happened. Ben's session was showing -1 in the window and yet his signal was equal to or better than a LAN. Work that one out if you can!
Despite all the flag waving.. it's really not all it's cracked up to be

Re: two monitors and FSX
The second monitor functionality that we had in FS9 was thrown away right at the beginning of FSX and we were firmly told that was how it was going to be :-(

Re: two monitors and FSX
Good job FSX is for VFR UK stuff then!!! I do think your right one step fwd 3 or 4 back... I will run FSX as an independent sim and continue to enjoy FS9. I think so far, FSX is good but not an overall FS9 beater I would at this point put its minus points outweighing the plus points, doesn't make it bad like I found before pre SP days, but I think my pc and me will be happier in a two sim set up

Re: two monitors and FSX
Hi Tony
I think that's the way to go mate. Enjoy FSX for what it is and use it as a development tool ;-) As Peter rightly points out.. M$ stated early on that dual monitor support would be minimal though I honestly don't know why other than the way the new graphics engine has been put together. Even on a much more powerful system.. I still see the screen redraw in a 'ripple' when goofing outside rather than the smooth transition between POV points in FS9 and I find this a little disappointing. It's fine inside and never 'ripples' but inside.. you have to put up with restricted views out of VC's with coloured glass and I simply DON'T LIKE VC's.. no matter how good they are. OK.. there are some 2D versions out there but it's just not the same :-(
Eeek.. a minor rant I never intended to happen
Easy to rant over FSX though and I manage it without even thinking
If you want to use something like FSCommander.. it WILL work on a second monitor mate but you have to work at it. When you've made the map 'connect' with the sim.. you'll also have to make your main screen 'Active' again because the sim loses touch with where you are. Can't remember off the top of my head how you do that but I think pulling down a menu off the top bar will do the trick. Cumbersome mate and not very good as each time you check a function on the second monitor.. you'll have to make the main one Active again otherwise you see and hear yourself moving on the map but going nowhere in the sim (or vice versa) :o

Here's a few hints on Dual monitor:

And for FS2004 but I think more or less the same thing... seems to be related to the "undocking" functionality

Unfortunately I can't say precisely how-to, as I only have one...
