Cpt Sim C-130 problem

Post by JD_Wyberton »

Hey Guys,

I bought the Cpt Sim C-130 for FS9 from Just Flight a month or so ago and have had a few very enjoyable flights when using ye olde 'warm start on the active runway' approach.

However, I felt it was time I started learning the ins and outs of this fantastic aircraft and run through the tutorials - both the Just Flight Lyneham circuit one and the one by Bernardo Srulzon at FSStation.

Everything went well with engine start-up (if a little dizzy after searching for relevant switches/buttons/meters :$ ) as far as changing the frequencies on the NAV radios. It won't happen - i.e. the frequencies are 'stuck' on the ones that are set when the units are first switched on. As with normal default FS radios, you can use either clicking on the display numbers or the dial to change the frequencies, but nothing is happening.

I hear the clicks from the cockpit sound, but nothing happens. I also can't swap the primary and secondary frequencies. On my previous 'hot-start' jaunts, I didn't use the radios at all.

I seem to remember having a similar problem in my early VATSIM excursions, but can't remember how I fixed it - if I knew at all.

I would ask on the JF forum but their 'support' has been sadly lacking in the past - and the Cpt Sim support is down for a month.

Any useful help gratefully appreciated.

Are you starting the flight with a default aircraft, then loading the C130 or starting directly with the Herc? A lot of hicups like this can be cured by starting with a default aircraft.

I had just started directly with the Herc.

I just had another go and this time it worked okay. I'll bear your advice in mind - thanks - if I have problems in future.

For some reason I have a serious problem setting the Herc down. I have not managed a single landing without either burying it or hitting with the tail first (in a vain attempt not to bury it!) and knocking it onto the nose.

Only with this bird. I am determined to get there in the end, though. In the tutorial, it says to let the AP guide the aircraft down the glideslope - but to me, that just ain't flying!
