Installed Kaspersky after making the purchase for it to instruct that Zone-Alarm be uninstalled as it has issues that will affect Kaspersky, it would go no further on the install until Zone-|Alarm was deleted!!:brick: :brick:
I am now running the windows XP firewall, I cannot justify further expense at this stage so would be grateful if anyone can advise why Zone Alarm cannot be run with Kaspersky? Also how good and safe is the Windows Firewall?
Any help or advice greatly appreciated as I had found that Zone Alarm to be reasonably good.
I am running Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7

I use the Windows firewall and have had no problems (touch wood) with viruses. I know Zone Alarm is rated highly and probably offers a greater level of protection, however I feel fairly safe because my router also has a firewall built in.
You might want to do some searching to see if there are any workarounds available for running Kapersky with Zone Alarm.
Probably not much help but what do you expect from number 2? ;-)
Nigel, does Kaspersky not have an inbuilt firewall? I'm pretty certain it does. This is why it won't work with Zonalarm. You shouldn't have more than one firewall running at a time.
As a general rule, the Internet Suite type packages include everything, not just the AV. ;-)
I actually purchased the Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7 so assume that this is all it does though there is a proactive defence on it but I assume that is for any registry changes or attacks.

I smugly purchased the Kaspersky Internet Security suite (i.e. with Firewall) on the last day of their 50% sale. I can't say for sure why the Anti-Virus software on it's own is disagreeing with ZoneAlarm but Firewalls in general examine every package that comes into the computer and filter them according to various rules to determine if it is evil and must be punished. It's possible that Kaspersky A/V is doing something similar in it's attempts to protect you from viruses, while not being a full blown firewall.
On a side note I must say Kaspersky is about a gazillion times more user friendly than certain other internet security suites I could name (ok Norton), I can actually get my three computers to see each other over my mini-network without spending half the day swearing at inanimate objects.
Ben, after reading Charlie Bravos' post and being able to purchase this anti-virus for £14.10 well, you don't look a gift horse in the mouth do you!! After purchasing and downloading it I went to install it but then at the start of the install it stated that I would have to delete ZoneAlarm due to incompatabilities!! :brick:
Now I am running the window XP Firewall until I can get this sorted out.

Thanks Skippybing, it's possible that it is doing just that but would still prefer the security of a firewall than just rely on theMS one

There really is nowt wrong with the MS one mate. Its like all these people who never run windows update to patch the opperating system, then complain that they get nasties. If you update your computer regularly and run a good AV you'll be fine.
