Heres an interesting clip - and an informative commentary; just come across it..
The ops all look like fair weather cycles. Would hate to to try with a breeze or at night! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfwJJD5j ... re=related
I've got a feeling it may have been about operating restrictions. I.E. adverse wind, heavy swell; deck pitching angle restrictions etc. Deck bending! Mind you, its a useful tool to have in yr box in case the need arises!
I remember reading about this in a book on the C-130 a while back. The main reasons they stopped it were a) having to rearrange all the aircraft on the flight deck forward of the JBD so they were out of the way and b) no one really knew what to do if the C-130 went downbird on the carrier.

Sorry Chris, what I meant was developing the C130 on a carrier idea a bit further, not the further development of the COD.
Exactly....the development of the C-130 was the C-2...they took a drawing of the C-130.....made it smaller, took two engines off it, and called it the c-2 (Awaits technical version of the same by someone "in the know")
