FS9 reinstall :-)

Post by DanKH »

Hi

I'm just about to reinstall my FS9, but I'm a bit rusty. How many SP's are there one, two? Can't really remember...

I think I remember all the add-on's needed, so no help needed there ;-)

Dan,

There was only one "Upgrade" and it was then called FS9.1 The important thing is to download and install the free upgrade BEFORE putting in any Addons...You will then find that the upgrade goes straight in with absolutely no problems. If you wait till later then some of your Addons will have introduced problems :flying:

Thanks too Peter. Will have to remember this when I come to do my re-install in a few weeks time. Am at the moment trying out aeroplanes and scenery that I havent touched before so that can be that little bit more selective when I came to the new installation. Tried for the first time last night Glacier Bay (I know I'm a little behind the times) and thats a definative keepon - just hope the frame rates improve as per 50% traffic was down to about 10-15 fps!! Yikes!!

Martin, The only place where the frame rates could get a bit low is in the vicinity of Yakutat (PAYA)...elsewhere the frame rates should be high. You can improve the frame rates over PAYA by excluding a special tarmac file that it uses...However, I keep it working because that special tarmac is accurate and gives it character of its own. I run Traffic in the Glacier Bay area at 100% and that is with McLeland Field, which has a huge amount of Traffic. But I'm guessing that you don't have that installed :flying:

The file name for that FS2004 update to FS9.1 is "fs91upd.exe" and if you do a search, you may already have it on your computer. If not then a Google on "MS FS2004 Update" will take you straight there :)

The only reason I can think of at present is that I'm running the Glacier Bay scenery on my old but still current Sempron 2800 and in three weeks time will 'upgrade' to a E6600 Dual Core with a 8800GT Graphics Card. Hopefully then can use it all at 100%. And no, I dont have McLend Field, is just your own scenery?

I do have the Fs9.1 upgrade on backuped DVD, along with nearly every other 2004 file, so cant see that being a problem. Just going to take a little while to set things back up again. What with this lovely weather we are about to experience in our neck of the woods this weekend and probably into the future, least it will give me something to think about in the weeks ahead. Havent flown now for over a month.....a somewhat sad record in my household! :(

Again thanks for all your help,

Best wishes to all,

Martin

To be quite honest, the only reason I installed FS9 again, was that I finished a long almost totally 1x flight from EGCC to KJFK for our VA, in FSX.

But on finals I discovered that, THE BL00DY DATUM ADJUST DOESN'T WORK IN FSX!... :o

Almost blew the landing.... :@

It jumps, when ALT hold is selected, to start off from -1400 f/m. Then you can adjust it up to +100 f/m then the next step is ...... well .... -1400 f/m....

I think you can imagine my troubles in heavy side wind at 2500 feet, with a sudden -1400 f/m decent setting.....! HELP

It works in FS9, so to fly the VA again, I currently use FS9 for that and FSX for the rest 8)

Btw. Thanks Peter.
