FSX Questions

Post by stegs »

Not long before FSX came onto the market I bought a computer that at last would run FS9 properly so I have
tended to ignore FSX but have watched the discussions for and against with interest.
Just looking in the local Game shop today I noticed they had FSX Deluxe at £29 and the Acceleration pack at £24.
Do you need both of these to make it viable or is the Acceleration pack optional?

Acceleration is Optional, but I would ensure you download and install SP2. It comes built in to acceleration, but can be downloaded for free from the FSX website. Frankly its a must. It has been interesting to see how people who were put off FSX originally by the bad publicity are now taking the plunge and having a great experience with modest hardware. The service pack definately makes a huge difference though, and should be applied straight after a fresh install. :)

Depends on what you want out of the sim Steve. FSX Deluxe at that price is good but.. the thing most of us wanted was SP2 (which was native to the other addon but something we had to wait for if we wanted it free). SP2 for FSX makes the sim what it should have been in the first place. Read the detail and decide on that ;-)

Hi Folks.I don't have FSX,not sure that I could deal with the possible problems.I note that SP2 is mentioned, but what about SP1.Is that now part included on the FSX CD?If not, would SP1 have to be installed on a clean install of FSX before then installing SP2?Perhaps it's just me getting a bit confused. :dunno: EricT

Eric,

Install FSX, then SP1, then SP2 or Acceleration. If you install SP2 and later decide to get Acceleration you'll have to un-install SP2, as it then gets re-installed by Acceleration. There's nothing like making it simple...

As SkippyBing states install in that sequence and all will be as it should....I followed their advice and am well pleased with FSX.....Just remember to reboot after each install and you should be flying FSX in no time...

I do a lot of R/C type flying with these sims and the sounds in FSX as the aircraft fly past is something else....I was amazed at the difference to FS9...you can really hear the 'Doppler' effect superb!!....all adds to the realism.

I have to say that one of my all time Favs is the Grumman Goose.....only gripe was the 'sit' on the water was too high but there is a quick fix on Avsim where someone has altered the contact points to rectify this.....other than that the bump mapping and sounds on the Goose show what can and will be forthcoming from all the addons that the clever ones both here and elsewhere are in the process of doing right now so make the switch...you will not regret it.. :flying:

Regards.
