Jaggies in Preview

Post by PeteH »

Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this?

In the preview pane in FS9 the selected aircraft has jagged edges, in the game all is perfect. I've played around with the graphics card settings but no luck.

It's no big deal but I would be interested to know why it is happening.

ive had this before, but a few changes in nvidia settings but i use nhancer now and its sorted... i think its either AA or AF that has to be on or off/application controlled to get rid of the jaggies...

Are you using an ATI graphics card? If so it's something to do with the Catalyst Control Centre. I'm I did a lot of investigating this in the past and found a fix for it.

Edit : Do you have jaggies in the sim as well and does AA switch itself on and off, or is it just in the preview window?

Thanks Guys.

Dave,
Yes Nvidia!

Chris,
I use nHancer too and I have used just about every combination of settings I can think of! I'm reluctant to mess with it any more as I have the sim itself running great and, as I'm sure we all know, changing one setting can screw it up completely and you can never get it back as it was :doho:

Chris,
Never had the problem on the old computer with an ATI card! Jaggies are only in the preview window, sim is fine.

Think I'll just leave it as it is. As I say it's no big deal.

If ive not listed them below they are off...
Anti Aliasing - supersampling at 32xs
Gamma Correction - On
Super Transparency AA
Anisotropic filtering - 16x
Texture Filtering - Quality
Trilinear Filtering - On
Aniso Sample Optimisation - On

Thanks Chris,

Tried your settings but no go! Still got jaggies in the preview.

My card is an 8500GT 512 MB which, whilst not exactly top end, performs very well in the sim.

I did think it may be a Vista thing but I don't think DaveB runs Vista and he gets it. I'm inclined to think the problem is a combination of a number of variables such as graphics card, CPU, OS etc. which is why some people get it and others don't.

Anyway, I can live with the preview problem as long as the sim runs OK and it does.

Thanks,

Pete

Hi Pete..

Correct mate.. I run WinXP SP2. I'm in the unenviable situation where I have to let FS9 do the AA part otherwise I see no aircraft in the 'Select Aircraft' window.. been that way since I retired my GF4200ti and got a GF6600GT. Current card is a 6800GT and nowt has changed. No such problems with both ATi's I've used in between

Dave

When you say you see no aircraft in the 'Select Aircraft' window, does that mean that you have a black window?

If that is the case, have you tried hitting ALT/ENTER? Works for me.

Hi Ralph :)

Yes mate.. that's correct. However, I find alt+enter a clumsy way of doing things so finally gave in and let FS do the AA. At the end of the day.. it's not as good as letting the card handle AA itself but the difference on my setup is marginal so I put up with it ;-)

Tks for the tip anyway. There are probably a few here who don't know of it
