Type rating training

Post by johnsmithe15 »

I just followed the forum instructions for gaining the VC10 type rating.

It took me a little while to figure out which flights I needed to do, all went well.

I have found the new statistics page and find it very useful, particularly for fuel planning on all my trips.

When, for instance, at EGLL I now notice that there are training flights at the bottom of my list (dark shaded training flights) for BAC 1-11, Trident and Comet. Sorry if I missed some big post or am being dense, I have been working through the list anyway for fun, but are these routes compulsory for maintaining type rating?

Hi Johnny,

The only time you need to do training flights are for gaining the TR initially or revalidating a TR it if it expires after 12 months of not flying the type. There is nothing to stop any pilot flying a training flight at any time if they feel they are 'rusty' from a period of inactivity on the type and wish to get 'up to speed' . The training flights have no affect on VA finances but do record any penalties you incur which will affect your % ranking. Whilst non-training/revenue flights are available for you to select then there is no need to fly the training flights. For types that you only have the training TR you will only be offered selection of the training flights available, the revenue flights are not available to you and will not be shown.

Regards

John

Thank you for clearing that up for me, if I'd been working my way through that list my training would have gone on indefinitely LOL
