IRIS F-14A Tomcat
Hi all.
I've been looking for a good F-14 recently and came across the IRIS model. Can anyone recommend it?
Seems like a nice piece of kit and at a VERY attractive price.
Cheers

Re: IRIS F-14A Tomcat
Hi Iain, as the IRIS one is payware, this post may find itself moved! There is an 'OK' freeware one at Avsim, that keeps getting updated every few months. The IRIS one is not in my hangar, but on the whole IRIS aircraft tend to be detailed but a bit 'heavy' on the PC side. I would get a Sea Vixen instead anyway

Re: IRIS F-14A Tomcat
Hey Iain, TBH its in my opinion the best F-14 around, and yes i am on the IRIS team, but it is an true opinion, like calypos said, it can be a bit heavy on some systems. What you may like to do instead of getting the full product is try the lite version of the f-14 which is a bargain price and can be upgraded to full product with the price deducted acordingly.
Re: IRIS F-14A Tomcat
Thanks Chris
I think I will purchase the 'full shilling' variant as soon as the birthday money rolls in! lol
System stats are: AMD Sempron Prosessor 3000+ 1.80 GHz, 1 Gig of ram
and a Radeon 9550 256 meg. graph. card
Though the possibility of a new CPU is in the mind
Cheers

Re: IRIS F-14A Tomcat
hmmm i would really surgest the lite version to try it out for a start, just to see if it would run on that system. but the choice is yours at the end of the day and the f-14 is definatly a good purchase and is in development for FSX aswell...
Re: IRIS F-14A Tomcat
I've always been hugely impressed by screenshots of the Iris Tomcat, and its been one of those planes I intend to buy at some point. I think the F-14 was a beautiful aircraft anyway.

Re: IRIS F-14A Tomcat
I'll drink to that! :drinkers:
well, almost
so what would you rate my system on a scale of 1 to 10
(1 being the lowest, 10 being the highest)
though I have been told its pretty...:fart:
so I tend not to run fsx on it (not that good a game anyway... a "Marmite" game

Re: IRIS F-14A Tomcat
Its about a 3 or 4 at a push to be honnest an. Seperons (Like intels celerons) aren't designed for any sort of gaming as they only have a tiny amount of cache, coupled with only 1GB of RAM its not going to do anything particularly quickly. Anyone who is buying a PC or laptop for any sort of gaming should avoid semperons and celerons like the plague.
Ben.
