Just a quick question,
Anyone here have an opinion or know for a fact whether the ammount of Aircraft in the Aircraft Folder has an effect on performance
I have just counted nearly 400 payware, freeware and AI in there :o , should I think about clearing out to a "hangar" folder.
Thanks.

Re: Aircraft Folder
A while ago I had a lot of accumilated airvrtaft I never use so I cleared the out. Some had over a hundred paints and I backed all those up.
It made no difference to my performance............don't know whether it can but it didn't in my case.
It might if you are generally short of HD space.

Re: Aircraft Folder
I know how you feel Jonny7
The time you'll notice the performance hit is while you're waiting for flightsim to load or when you go to 'select aircraft' but other than this, I don't think it has a great deal of impact. As an experiment, make a new folder outside your fsim directory and dump a pile of aircraft in there (this is what I do every now and again.. especially with my Alpha models). You don't have to move the effects/gauges.. just the aircraft which can be dropped in again at any time and they'll work
You should see better load times and definately better 'select aircraft' times

Thanks for the replies,
I have created a "hangar" sub folder and now am agonising over what to put in for the winter.
Thanks again

Re: Aircraft Folder
TBH Johnny
The method or temp withdrawl that Dave mentions is very sound
You could put all on a seperate disc or external drive and call only the ones in you currently fly
You can constantly change in just seconds as you are only removing the aircraft folder.

Re: Aircraft Folder
Eck just counted mine... In excess of 800 folders, thats got everything from AI to test aircraft...
Re: Aircraft Folder
Well my FS installation takes a while longer to first start up once I've clicked the shorcut.
*Ahem* I think I need to have a clean-up..... 520 folders :o Most of it is the Tantris AI pack I think!

Re: Aircraft Folder
I've noticed that the amount of addon scenery will affect your sim speed far more than the amount of aircraft. Even with 800+ aircraft installed the difference between that and a clean installation when loading up is fairly negligible (5 seconds perhaps?) Whereas with an extra 50 addon scenery areas I can wait an extra minute or two on loadup than I would on a clean installation.
Good news for those of us that seem to collect aircraft we never fly.
