Some new Skysim Sea Vixen pictures!!!!

Post by Trev Clark »

This wonderful project (which broke cover here in the summer) continues development and testing, I've just spent a day doing some foul weather flying around NZ South Island (but it might have been cheaper to stay in the UK) and hope the development team do not mind me sharing some shots of the latest models. Despite a complex VC and a very detailled model FPS are looking very promising, at least in FS9! :lol: :lol:

Really nice progress, looking very tasty.

My only suggestion would be adding an alpha glass effect to the instruments (within the gauge, not modelled) as they look a bit flat amongst the photos.

None of the gauges are 'release' versions as far as I'm aware and I'm not really sure how they'd look with alpha.. they are flat after all :think: They're 'functional' beta gauges and shown, as Trev intimated, without the developers blessing ;-) I'm sure Brian and Jim will have taken your comments onboard anyway :cool:

I'm a bit biased towards the effect as I like to use the it myself at the moment. It's a just like bump mapping in FSX, really makes them stand out.

You can also make things like needle shadows with it.

I make mine by simply using the fantastic plastic effect in photoshop.

I'm not actually sure what it's called so below an example image used for a default turn co-ordinator.

Then in XML it would be the last element like this:

<Element>
<Position X="0" Y="0"/>
<Image Name="altimeter_highlight.bmp" Alpha="Yes"/>
</Element>

Hope that's a better explantion =)

Hi HInch :)

Rgr that. I'm not sure how or even if the same effect can be used on the Vixen as the project gauge man (Jim Cooper) is a 'C' guru and this is how the majority of what you see is programmed. :think:

Sketchy..
It goes very well with your Ark mate ;-) First thing you'll do when you get your hands on it will be to 'DELETE' the Alpha model (if you have it)! Not simply move it but delete it as the model above is in a much different class ;-)
