WWII Pistons.... help needed?

I've been looking at rounding out my payware collection (well, not specifically payware but I'm looking for uber quality) with some WWII era Pistons (and perhaps the odd biplane or two) but I'm rather bewildered by the huge selection out there. I've always used the RealAir Spitfire and the Plane Design Lancaster, however I wasn't too impressed with the flight modelling of the former (the Spitfire was good but it wasn't that good) and the flight model again seemed a bit twitchy and the textures a little bit too shiny on the latter. However I recently picked up the Shockwave/Wings Of Power FW-190 and I am very impressed, it really ticks all of the boxes from my point of view. So I started doing some further digging and found a multitude of developers all covering WWII era aircraft. I notice Just Flight have a Lancaster, but that looks like a re-badged Aeroplane Heaven one. Is it worth picking it up? Obviously they are completely different marks of aircraft but does anyone have any opinions of the Plane Design Spitfire vs the Aeroplane Heaven one? I know there is a Mossie being produced on here by some of our wonderfully talented designers so that base is covered, however how about Hurricanes? I notice a few developers have produced them, which ones do you folks rate? Are there any decent very high quality Typhoon and Tempest models out there? Any Beaufighters? Any other more obscure aircraft from the era?

What I'm pretty much asking is what WWII pistons do you fly and why? It's an aspect of FS I'm only just beginning to explore and it's rather overwhelming as there are so many developers producing the same or similar models.

I'm flying the wings of power HE-219 - it sounds tremendous and the good visibility makes it a fun flight. It's not really very nimble, but it was designed to shoot down Mossies: http://www.fs2004.co.uk/pictures/shockwave-he-219/

I don't own the AH/JF Lancaster but it doesn't look that great for the price.

There's two freeware hurricanes worth mentioning, firstly the AH freeware one is very nice and the 'tin opener' package from Avsim.

The WoP WWII Fighters are good (as is the FW190 I also own) Alpha do either a Typhoon or a Tempest but I've not had any experience in either. Their Beaufighter isn't too bad.. a little long in the tooth perhaps. Skyunlimited Hurricane's are worth a look and the pack comes with both FS9 and FSX versions (I think.. and I have it too!). Yes, that's it. The pack comes with a self installer and gives the option of loading one or the other.. but not both :brick: I dragged the FS9 version down into FSX and it works fine.. except for constant machinegun fire when I have the lights on I doubt this would happen if you did a proper FSX install ;-)

WoP B17 is a lovely model as is the B29. Both work just fine in FSX too ;-)

The JF Mossie should have been here already but it isn't for some reason. Hope it's better than the 'free' one that came with their Lancaster :roll: I'm certain the 'home grown' version will be better ;-)

Some of the older 'freeware' Alpha models aren't bad. I had the Tigercat up only yesterday Not tried it in FSX though.

I have so many of these things on my system, I can't remember them all but this should be enough to keep you going ;-)

The Sky-Unlimited Hurricanes are pretty good, they also work in both FS9 and FSX. Not too expensive either.

Dave, that Hurri did install (using the installer) into both, I even have all the little thumbnails.

Perhaps I should have tried to hit both radio buttons first time round as I'm sure it only gave me the options to remove, repair or modify when I tried the installer again. Probably missed something :roll: Never mind
