Contra/Counter-Rotating Props

Post by SkippyBing »

Has anyone had any experience modelling contra-rotating props? I'm modelling the Wyvern which has one engine and two props, at the moment however I can only get one to spin. I thought I'd be able to do it by having the second prop named prop0_slow_aft etc. and just flipping its pivot point through 180 degrees to make it spin the other way, but so far no. Any ideas?

The only thing I can suggest is to download the Tupolev 114 which has the most wonderful contra-rotating prop model, and see whether you can gain any ideas from that

Its in the naming and hierachy, helicopters need two rotors for one engine, you can only have one prop0_slow ( so they say ) but you can trick it if you make the 2nd one a child of a different parent, example

Primary Parent...Exterior
Child..........................fuselage
Child...................................prop0_slow
2ndary Parent...........nose
Child..................................prop0_slow

so long as each prop0_slow is not a child of the same parent you should be ok, otherwise l think prop0_slow_01 and prop0_slow_02 will have to be your naming convention, try the first example, l'll double check mine when l get home, note this is for Gmax or Max exporting, not sure on FSDS exports at all. Dont forget to rotate the 2nd prop ref axis 180 degrees to get it to visually spin backwards.

Best

Michael
