I have no idea why this aeroplane has used no fuel and also had a terrible attrition rate on that particular flight. I will retire gracefully and leave it at Aldergrove for others to return.
Lancastrians will be left well alone and I will return to what I can fly.

Hi Steve
Just in case you might think there is any suggestion of some 'underhand' goings-on.. that most certainly isn't so
I've 35hrs done in the Lanc over some 6220nm and have not had a 'negative burn' situation. On the York.. oh boy!! Things didn't go to plan at all but on the Lanc.. it's all gone as smooth as a smooth thing
Unfortunately.. this is not an uncommon occurance. Nine out of ten pilots will see one thing and the tenth will see something else. We need to get to the bottom of why the tenth pilot saw something different in order to find a solution
Give us as much detail as you can so that we can try and duplicate it.. eg, PD or MJ/PE Lanc.. if the patch was used.. e t c

Hi John
In the cold light of morning I still have no idea why the negative burn. I was using the PD Lanc that I've had a while. I'd done a couple of tryout flights using VA routes but not booked in and everything seemed fine.
I was a bit baffled why the fuel wasn't going down during the flight but decided was maybe a hiccup with the plane model.
I admit to being a bit fine on fuel but I often land on fumes (apart from VC10) as I don't mess around with ATC and just come straight in. (I have enough trouble just watching glideslopes and whatnot without worrying about other planes
).
I did a quick checkflight with a Dove straight after the Lanc flight to see if there was a problem with FLYNET or my FS but everthing was fine and dandy with that.
As to the attrition rate again no idea. The landing didn't seem that heavy.
You mentioned a patch. Is that for the PD Lanc?

Hi Steve,
Really odd this. We'd done a lot of test flying with the York and Lanc' especially when we found fuel useage probs with the York, somehow due to it's tank configuration. The freeware Lanc' had no similar problems at all other than not being comparable with the PD Lanc' in respect of speed and fuel burn. The patch is for the freeware Lanc' to get the figures to match PD for speed and fuel burn. I've just picked up the Lanc' from EGAA and flown the reciprocal route that you flew yesterday, also using PD Lanc. I accepted the 800kgs fuel left in the aircraft just in case there was some sort of anomoly with using a small fuel amount but I didn't see any problems. What refuel method did you use?
Rgds

Hi John
Sorted I think. Booked a Lanc flight Manchester to Blackbushe.
The first flight was using the PD model and it wouldn't use any fuel.
I loaded 1000kg but did two thirds of the flight and no fuel usage at all. Aborted and loaded the freeware Lanc. Repeated the flight and it seemed fine. Check my flight and see if everything OK?
Must be a problem with my setup and the PD Lanc but quite happy to use freeware. As to attrition rate still no idea but you can dock my pay
Cos I've got loads of money

Hi Steve,
Really odd that. FS does some strange things at times. I wonder if a fresh instal of the PD might cure the prob? Would be nice if you could get both versions working satisfactorily. Another option to try would be to load the fuel that you need first and then use the 'compare' method and see if the PD records fuel useage that way.

Tried a flight from Heathrow to Paris using the compare method with the PD model and it seemed to work. It used fuel OK but I aborted because the PD model not for me. It seems very flaky.
I repeated the flight with the freeware model with standard refuel and found it a much nicer piece of kit to fly.
No idea if anyone else will trouble with the Lanc but I'm sorted.
Thanks for your patience.

Tks for that Steve
No.. the PD Lancastrian is pretty inferior where the FD is concerned as was the Lancaster until someone stepped in and had a word
John and I have put a good many miles in without any problem on the PD model but a problem has been identified so pilots flying this model will now be aware
