You probably nodded off half way through Dave

re. the sounds, if it's simulating the hand crank time, it probably needs the sound of the chap wheezing louder and louder as it goes on.

So true on both accounts

Yup.. there's obviously only one sound file for both hand-crank and automatic retraction.. all models point to GFA Avro Anson Mk1-SMOOTH COWLS TURRET\sound. I half expected a different sound for the Mk1's but when I first heard it, I presumed they'd been retro-fitted (this without checking the animation times outside). TBH.. 35seconds for the hand-crank models may be a tad fast. I've not timed the AF Ansons sounds but they seem to go on forever and are in keeping with cranking the gear up by hand with a little lever. No wonder the gear was left down for short flights

EDIT: The AF Anson gear-up soundfile is 1.19s .. I thought it lasted forever!

I'm sure the sound could be edited to last longer but it would have to be done by someone with the right editing tools. 35 seconds seems incredibly long. I'll have to have another look

EDIT: I've just had a look at the MkXI and that took around 35secs. Is this simulating the hand-crank time do you think?

I wondered about hand cranking too, but the notes for the Mk2 state that it had hydraulically operated gear. So from that, presumably only an earlier model such as the GR.1 would possibly have been hand-cranked - yet it's 35 seconds for both aircraft. The Mk. C12 is also 35 seconds and I doubt a variant as late as that was hand cranked. As I say, the Anson Nineteen is 10 seconds - maybe the winder had two Shredded Wheat in that one. Anyway, something that Simon might like to look at.

Still loving it though. I took delivery of my new TrackIR 5 today, so I've been in sim Nirvana !

Yes mate.. to the best of my knowledge, only the Mk1 had hand-cranked gear. This was certainly too much for the Canadians who fitted hydraulic gear in the Mk2's  How many Mk1's were retro-fitted with the new gear, uprated engines, different nacelles e t c is anyones guess *-)

Onwards and upwards ;)

OK, revisited the spec map issue. Here's what I see in P3d:

Image

Note the reddish tint on the RH nacelle.
By default the left nacelle is using this spec map:

and the right is using this one:

If I change it so they're both using the grey type, it looks like this in sim:

Now, strangely in FSX although they're using the same textures you don't see the red specular and it looks similar to my last pic. :dunno:
Weird. :S

Blimey, you must have a good eye for such things, Dave G. I wouldn't have noticed the red tinge, but sure enough there it is.

I see.. or at least, I do now

I'd not seen that at all Dave and I made a point of looking at as many types as possible this afternoon. Some odd things are happening to some users. You'll have seen the post over at the Outhouse where one chap has seen lots of float types (13) shown in the Select Aircraft window. I reckon that was probably a glitch in the download mind you. I've had similar happen but with aircraft not showing.. not lots of the same one. Check out the cfg and there have been loads of spaces/tabs on the lines :dunno:

Fortunately.. mine is sound as a pound :cpu:

Oh, on the colour issue........ Simon doesn't own Prepar3D and can therefore not SEE what happens to his creations there. We develop them for FSX - and yes, have some people test them in P3D to see if all works, but obviously there may be anomalies.

I'll send all info to Simon so he can try and do something about it.

Also, some of the 'differences' in problems may be a result in the fact that after the first Beta almost a year passed until now. Simon has been re-doing large chunks of the aircraft AND adding new models, including much of the test results from that first Beta. It appears that he may have forgotten to update all of the issues on the earlier models ?

Again, we'll keep reading, jotting down notes and learning from all of you. Thanks !!
