I am off the runway and the height is 72.3ft.

The only possibility is that you have another flatten at the lower height in another active scenery area.

If you start on Rwy 18 then deselect Hamble, do you drop to 59.2? I rise to 74.8ft.

The trees have no effect, they sit at the level of the flatten or mesh whichever is in effect.

Try the start on the runway test.

Off to bed now, see you tomorrow.

Hi George..

No.. the trees have no effect. 41 files in the extras folder and 41 files removed. All I have in Addon Scenery is this..

Image

The only files in Addon\Scenery are files for Bodmin and they wouldn't cause a problem at Hamble. I've called it a day and am happy to put it down to experience ;)

Thanks for looking anyway guys

Righty chaps,

I've unticked everything other than Hamble and the runway is still at 72.3 feet while all around is at 59.2. If I take Hamble out, the whole area is already flat at 73.7 feet

If I open Hamble in ADE, the airport alt was 68 (forgotten now, but 60 something)

I've also noticed a few bushes coming through the apron so it looks like one of the excludes is wrong too

I didn't look in ADE but I did take Hamble out and revisit the area. I saw pretty much what you've done mate. Hardly a bump in that part of the world. Something, somewhere seems to have gone amiss but I CBA to find out what at this time of night. I've deleted Hamble as I said so there it was.. gone. A shame but in reality.. I think I only went there once in the old install anyway and that was to goof. I had VFR Refineries installed then and it killed my system.. Hamble being just too close. I don't have the refineries installed now and I'm not going to this time around. More can be done with Portsmouth and Southampton (especially Southampton) but that's for another day :)

OK, I'm back, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed :welldone:

Perhaps I am the one with the problem (although I see the same on both my XP and W7 machines). Maybe it is intended that the area should be bumpy?

One possibility might be a difference between our scenery settings? These are mine:

Right at the start I said that the flattens were rather crude. Well, investigating further, I can see that there are gaps between them.

Overall:

Zoomed in, one can see the gaps:

Give me an hour or so and I will make a blended flatten to replace the nine separate flattens.

OK.. another day, another dollar

I looked at Hamble in ADE9x and it reports the airfield alt as 68.898ft(21m). Sitting on the runway start position in the Beech, I see 72.3ft. Changing to the glider with the CoG closer to the ground.. I see 70.1ft. Removing Hamble from the Scenery Library while still on the runway start posn in the glider, I see 68.5ft. The answer is out there.. I'm just not sure where it is

Out to work at 11am (my last day :( ) but will have another look when I get back home.. whenever that'll be :)

Oops.. u popped in there George as I was posting. :hello: I'll change my mesh complexity to 100 ;)

EDIT: Upping the mesh complexity from the default 70 to 100 made no difference though I've noticed since your 1m setting coincides with my 5m setting. Sitting on the rwy in the Beech.. I got the same reported 72.3ft and slewing off gently either side, this dropped to 59.2ft. There's a lot going on at Hamble isn't there

Just reading this thread reminded me that I hadn't been to Hamble since I don't know when. So .........

Thanks to Image Shack for free hosting.

Thanks to Trev for Hamble, and Rick for the Chippie.

As you can see, from whichever way you look at it ... as flat as a Deal board, as my grandma would say.

The file I have for the Chipmunks, College of Air Training static aircraft.bgl should display 6 Chipmunks on the apron but it references a different model from that in Chipmunk No 1.bgl

The 4 Chipmunks I do see (as in your last pic) are from a different file.
