Well guy's, I must admit that I didn't expect this much response to this thread.
You know what they say, ex smokers are the biggest objectors to it.
I was a 40 a day man, untill I started having serious health problems, went to hospital, and after extensive tests, was basically told to pick my box, and be quick about it, unless I changed my habits.
Eight years later, I'm still here and have no intentions of going for a while yet.
I enjoyed going down the pub as much as anyone. Three nights a week, and Saturday afternoons. Haven't been for eight years as I got sick of people blowing smoke around, and I won't go until it is stopped. There seem to be more people not going to pubs these day's than there are going, so there is a potential market there.

Half the pubs in my area have now closed for lots of reasons. Some are being turned into mosques.
They can't compete with supermarket prices for drinks. There is a lot more available entertainment at home with the TV packages available, broadband internet, movies, sport, and not forgetting CBFS.
Most of the ones that are still open have the same three saddo's sat at the bar puffing away every night. Same old stories, same old jokes.
I can only speak for the pubs in my area, but they need to clean up their act, and then people will go back into them, and I would join them. Providing it is still £1-17 a pint.

Actually I am an ex smoker as as I said above anyone is welcome to smoke around me and in my home

It is I feel just letting someone else live their lives.

Toby

Drinking causes more effect on other people than smoking

They talk about passive smoking.........but that could equally be pollution from other sources.

But the number of people that drink, hurt themselves and beat up other people is uncountable.and the vandalism and theft done when drunk.

Not many people are killed on the roads as a direct result of smoking and driving.

Drink causes insurance premiums to be higher as well

A lot of innocent folks are affected by guys who drink.

It's up to the individual to be polite and realistic.

Just because smoking is allowed at the moment does not mean smoke should be blown in folks faces.

It's apart of our culture and all I can see is the Government trying to assert authority on the freedom of the individual.

We have no smoking in bars, in the workplace or any indoor area. Businesses havent been harmed by it. Now it just seems normal after a year of being in use. No big deal. Kinda nice to go into a bar, have a few drinks and not worry about the upper atmosphere :)
