It's probably better than it looks under the dust

Ah.. nice phot Garry though the content isn't as I'd like to see it. I know a lot of these folks are volunteer's so it's wrong to start being critical but it's probably true to say that she is a lot worse now than when she flew in. The saving grace in all this is at least she's inside. Take a look at similar aircraft that flew in at a similar time and have not been so fortunate. The Varsity T1 springs to mind here. Disgusting.. absolutely disgusting :crying:

The Lizzie didn't fly in though Dave
She was at Lasham with the York a Comet and a Dak held by the Dan Air preservation Society which was a volunteer group rather than an official group.
When Dan Air folded that was the end of that. The Dak was their last painted up as their first and went to Euro Disney but I never saw it there and not seen it reported there.
The Lizzie was trucked in, much in need of a little TLC.whnch she was getting.

Looks in about the same sort of state (and probably location) as she was about 5 years ago!! Shes in off the restoration hangars which are open to public viewing. I only hope that once the Air Space project is up and running, that Duxford has a think about building a suitable venue for the larger airliners.

As I understand it, the Ambassador at Duxford is in a lamentable state.
I visited Duxford the other week and was disappointed to find all of the British Airliners (VC10/Trident/BAC1-11/Britannia/Comtet 4) closed to the public. Also, they all looked a little 'weather weary'. I wish they could be placed inside and refurbished but, reckon would need a another new hanger to realise that.

Tony,
My impression is that most are repaints of the FSX aircraft.

Ah.. I presumed. In one of the many Duxford books I have, it mentions her 'arrival' but is not specific. It would seem likely then that her wings were off before she arrived (presuming that she came by road or inside something else) which, in itself, seems slightly less destructive

They had started restoring and rebuilding her oustside in a shelter at first.
But a lot of work needed
Even though Dan Air looked after her and she was repainted a couple of times she had been out in the open since 1970 and toward the end a bit neglected.

I don't know of another Elizabethan/Ambassador
anywhere. At least (one would hope) it will not suffer the same fate as the Trident at Cosford
