Hi chaps,

I definitely had the smoke (and I think the FLOLS lights) when I first installed her, but sadly no more. I'm convinced its something to do with graphics settings, but I'm not 100% sure *-)

Ben,

I'm wondering if that's the case myself, it's hard to think what else could be causing it to happen on some computers but not others.

Hi Skip,

I did most of my testing last night in P3D. I was pretty sure I'd had the lights and smoke showing before the new Graphics card arrived. When I put the new card in I let it build new CFG files (for P3D and FSX) and deleted the old shader cache. the starting point for all my testing was EGNT (UK2000 with GenX) flying DG's T8. Vic is just off Tynemouth and then steams North so I picked her up about 15 minutes into her trip.
Since I've had the new card I've had no lights and no smoke. Also the Nave lights on the Hunter (and others) are very very dim. The solution to the Nav Lights seems to be switch all lights off and on again. I was playing around with various texture sizes and at one point, the lights on Vic where there. I went into the setting to see what they were and without changing anything, went back into the sim and the lights were gone. All this time there was still no smoke.

having given up playing with just about every setting in P3D, I had a look at the P3D profile in the NVidia Drivers. After making the following changes, the smoke reappeared and has stayed consistently....
enabled texture Filtering Negative LOD to CLAMP,
Antialiasing 8xCSAA,
AA Mode enhance the application setting,
Gamm Coreection ON
FXAA ON

On the same principle as the Nav lights on the Hunter, I wonder if there was some way to re load the lights (effectively switch them off and on) would that work as a test?

I think we can pretty much safely say that Victorious is doing whatever she wants.. two fingers to the lot of us!

I set up a flight from St Just to pick her up at around 0420 in the morning using the default 206B. She's only about 15nm away which is do-able in a helo in the dark.. just  Coming up on 9nm.. I was a little concerned I couldn't see her. I could see 'A' ship brightly lit but the TACAN wasn't pointing exactly in that direction. As I got closer, I picked up the wake and Vic was a mile or so behind the other ship (which turned out to be a ferry). Unfortunately.. still no FLOLS although wave-off's were working

Image

I suddenly twigged I couldn't see any deck lights which would explain her almost total invisibility. Now.. I know the deck lights have worked. When this traffic file was setup, I sat the Bell on deck.. put the sim at x4 and let it run for some 7hrs.. plotting it's position offshore at suitable times. All the deck lights worked fine. Now.. no deck lights.
Ah.. I thought.. this is the older mdl file Skip posted so perhaps they didn't work on that (pre-release) model so.. I renamed the old file to OLD and reinstated the release file. Still no lights with her off St Just so I setup another flight (having closed the sim down and restarted it) from St Mawgan. I noted previously that she was some 50nm west of EGDG at 0300 so surely, she'd have deck lights on then. Chose the Seaking for this flight as it has considerably faster heels than the 206B. Even so, it took a while to get to her (showing 52 and a bit NM from EGDG at takeoff on the Tacan). NOTHING.. no lights at all except for very dim green bridge cfg lamps (showing equally dim red from the other side). This time, I didn't even see red wave-off's despite putting the Seaking in a position to get em! I dunno what the parameters are for the wake to show but I didn't see that either. Without TACAN.. she would have been impossible to find and no mistakin. :-O

So.. where does this leave us? I really don't know is the answer. The deck lights did work.. I know that for a fact but now they don't. Wave-off's are hit and miss on the release mdl but always work on the pre-release mdl. FLOLS remain a no show throughout. This little tinker has far too many twists and turns to make sense of *-)

@ Ben, You could try dropping the boat traffic slider down to zero, then back up again. That may work *-)

just for clarity, the only lights I get in either sim are the faint wave offs. Smoke is working in both FSX and P3D after the changes made to the NVidia driver in the earlier post. ;)

Hmm.. the wave-offs should be more than faint mate but at least you're seeing them. Do you not see the red/green bridge indicators either? These are dimmer than a dim thing on a dim day but definitely working here. I see smoke and I see the wake.. I see everything except the FLOLS (and now deck lighting) 'except' if I'm at 0300 in the morning and then she's cold and dark. *-)

Sorry chaps, I'm loosing the plot. Its the bridge indicators that I see, nothing else. Sorry for the confusion :wall:
