I've gone for Cliffs of Dover and the A10. Both seem to run up ok but I haven't had chance to rest them much.
According the the site I saved £48. Nice!

I certainly wouldn't regard this as pinching the post, go for it, Roger!dodger wrote:Hi Mike,
Not to pinch your original post mate but how did you get on running Cliffs of Dover?
I must admit i have a ATI 5450 card which is not the best i know but i only had my new PC last year and its enough to run FSX and Ship Simulator Extremes ok and i thought i would have a go at C o D even if i had to turn the graphics down a bit but for the game to not even Start well i will not express what i would like to say about that on here !!...................Roger.
As promised, here are some details of my system. As you can see, there's only a "C" drive, and that holds FS9, FSX, CoD, BoB, Flightgear plus some racing sims:

As always, it seemed like the bees knees when I bought it in 2011, but if I had some dosh, I would consider putting in additional video cards. I has the capacity to fit several, with bridges between them.
Not fully understanding these things, I don't know whether this is a good thing, or if it;s best to up the CPU, RAM, or what. Might ask Ben some day.
Maybe I just need to get rid of those 385 aeroplanes that rarely get flown! I did try deleting heaps of scenery once but it made no difference to loading times. FSX can whizz up to 300 fps when the scenery is light, say in a clear sky over the sea.
I'll time the CoD load and post that as an edit.
EDIT: It's been a while since I ran it, so my first click told me that it was to be "Converted to a new more efficient format."
This took several minutes, but seemed to happily complete. I then tried to start, and it went through a further bunch of updating.
Closed it at the finish, then clicked the start icon.
Took about 30 sec. to show the main screen.
Checked all the control axes & keys, looked OK and took the Tiger Moth training flight. Ran OK, except that the responses seemed slow.
Instructor kept telling me off for not climbing, but as soon as I'd gained enough airspeed to climb, he called for descent, followed by "Are you ever going to climb?, Is the intercom working?"
"Fly to the next ring" (couldn't see one) "Turn left" - applied usual inputs and got blasted again for not turning. Called me some kind of oaf.
"I'm taking over, going to land" So I watched the interesting scenery, but none of my POV buttons had any effect, had to use num pad.
So it works....sort of.

Hi Chaps,
This is the response from the UK download site:
Hi Mike,
Our apologies, we can replace the Take on helicopter titles with a non steam version if your members wish to contact us (they need to have purchased the steam version beforehand of course). But I’m afraid we cant do anything about Cliffs of dover, as that only received a steam release and isn’t available without it.
Kind Regards,
Jordan Marshall
Good luck.

Well, I wrote to Get Games as soon as I realised that the TOH & Hinds purchases were Steam only.
When you hover the mouse cursor over the game icon, an info bar pops up that says whether steam is required or not - but the purchase button is separate, so I didn't see the pop-up bar.
They immediately replaced my purchases with non-Steam versions, which I think is very good of them - a look on the product page showed that it does indeed say that Steam is a requirement, but that statement was at the bottom (where else is that kind of thing always?) in italics and not very prominent.
I see that they have now put a clear notice on the product pages for those requiring Steam.
Personally, I thought it was very good of them - in this day and age, most e-tailers would say "go see the padre and get a tough sh*t chit!" or words to that effect...
The A-10C and Black Shark 2 titles have a pop-up saying Steam is not required, so no surprises there. I think you should be able to import those into DCS:World, too (and get your "free" Su-25T to boot) by downloading the relevant modules and if asked, entering your separate title activation keys.
I already have the lot, and once they finally sort World out it looks like it will be a real cracker (lots and lots of aircraft in development) but we could do with some fresh terrain.
Any offers?

Hello Mike,
That's really appreciated for posting your specs,
I have a feeling that it's probably my graphics card that's the problem going by what i have been reading about the ATI 5450, i will have to get another one, [perhaps Mother Christmas will leave one under my pillow]
Thanks again,
Cheers,
Roger.
