For Speedbird591: I have just sent an email with attachment of a screenshot to your email address. I do not know how to put a screenshot into this forum.

Hello Hobby. Got your email and replied to it. If you are still having trouble, I'll post your screenshot here for somebody else to have a look at it.

Re: Odd behaviour of FS9
I believe the "ones that will fall out the bottom" pertains only to the files that appear in the "Start - My Recent Documents" list That list shows the last 10 or so files used. The source of the list comes from "C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\Recent" and I found several hundred files in that folder, all very small because they are really shortcuts. I don't know if they ever get cleaned up or not, but I figure they don't really need to be there so I let CCleaner delete them when I run it. Of course, you can also do it manualy. Using CCleaner it will also delete all the files on the"Start - My Recent Documents" list but it will soon fill again as you open new documents.Ben Watson wrote: No.2 is just the recent files list. When you access something, windows makes a note of it so that it can access it again more quickly if needs be. If you have deleted the items its refering to, its no problem as its just a pointer so no need to go cleaning it up, windows will deal with it in time as you access more files, these ones will fall out the bottom as it where.

Yes, I found hundreds of shortcuts in that file. While I do not yet have FS9 back to operational standard, I have decided to re-install from scratch, I shall delete all the shortcuts from that file ASAP.
Re: Odd behaviour of FS9
Minor point, i suppose by "file" your mean "folder"? It really isn't a big deal if you leave the short cuts as is until after you reinstall FS9. When your happy with FS9, you could delete those files and then run a disk defragmenter to clean things up and speed up FS9 and everything else, at least that's the standard line - I don't think defragmenting helps a huge amount unless your drive is really fragmented. I still do it regularly because if you don't it can take ages to run - at least on my computer. If you do it as part of a regular maintenance schedule it doesn't take as long to run.hobby wrote:Yes, I found hundreds of shortcuts in that file. Nigel -
Don't know if you have tried it, but I have been using this freeware for well over a year now and am very happy with its performance WRT cost, speed and apparent effectiveness.

Windows Defrag is an absolute shambles - even if you run it in safe mode, it is still likely to trip over its own feet. It seems that when it finds a file has changed since it first looked at it, it will start the defrag again and then try ten more times before giving up altogether; trouble is, the file that changes appears to be the defrag programme's own index, which is changed by the defrag programme when it finds the file has changed....It sounds like something emanating from Brussels, to meet an EU requirement.

I clear all my cookies, run a Ya-Hoo antispyware program, disk cleanup, defrag and then run my ISP provided Norton antivirus program each week. I then run WXP de-frag again.
Re: Odd behaviour of FS9
Yes, I use the Auslogics defrag and echo your recommendation and your comment regarding the Windows XP Defrag is right on!emfrat wrote:Nigel -

Re: Odd behaviour of FS9
Having re-installed a barebones FS9 plus editvoice pack plus FSNav plus some addon scenery I continued to add scenery stage by stage going for a test flight after adding each group of 3-4 scenery addons. All went well when suddenly up came 'rutime 6025 error' again.
A quick email to one of our son's schooldays friends brought the reply indicating that I should use part of the Windows program to trace the fault. Fine, that worked first time and produced the following analysis of the problem:
"event 1000 auxsource Flight Simulator"
When I 'googled' the above line I was astonished to see numerous entries, including quite along one from our own forum with the title "Help.........."
Most of the entries and correspondence on the web seems inconclusive but I wondered if any of our computer experts have the real solution to this problem. It is extremely frustrating to delete lots of FS9 programs - re-install most, begin a flight only to have the dreaded 'runtime 6025 error' CTD. You know I have had FS9 running very smoothly for years, I spend hours each day 'flying' and I just cannot find a cure.
Surely someone in the field of computer/FS9 endeavour has the answer to this problem.
My plea is also HELP (Squared)
