Didn't realise Lotus were Renault powered before they went to Honda. Then again, I was only 4 or 5 in 1986, and didn't get into F1 'til 1987 (some bloke called Nige was doing quite well at the time!)

Sorry to read of the demise of your lens :-( .
Great pictures, nontheless!

That JPS Lotus looks like it needs it tracking checked.

Trev - no the Optica is very definitely a flyer - had my camera not packed up I would have had a pic or two of it in flight. John Edgley has bought back the rights and the tooling and wants to restart production.

Peter - thanks - guess that was a luckier shot than I thought!

HC - yup Lotus were Renault powered from mid 1983 until the end of 1986. Looking at some info on the net it looks is if three teams (Williams, McLaren and Lotus) all moved away from Ford engines mid season. Their car was designed by Gérard Doucarouge so perhaps he had something to do with the french engine conenction? They actually did quite well with Mansell until the end of 84 when he switched to Williams and then Senna and de Angelis the latter of whom left at the end of '85 and the seat was taken up by Johnny Dumfries - aka the Marquess of Bute. And yes its before my time too really! But I found the 80's turbo era quite fascinating, many competing good drivers and cars, no refuelling, no pit strategies, just racing, how it should be really.

Hi
A pleasure to view such great photos of some classic oldies in action !. Seeing the old DH-83 reminded me of a time long-long ago on a beach at Southport Lancashire -

Yes folks - that's me in my school blazer (on holiday - in my best kit ? - why ? ) with my brother before climbing aboard for our great adventure (a flight to and around Blackpool tower in typical British summer weather !
Thanks for reminding me that the old lady is still flying.
Cheers
Dave Moly
