The pub's certainly still there, and isn't bad - a bit more modern inside now IIRC.

So far as I know they only painted the three aircraft in the Dark Blue and Gold scheme, the Hart will be along soon - using the Audax Trainer model (if ok with Ted Cooke) - seeing how the factory hack wasn't armed!

There was a civil registered Fury I, but it appears to only have civil reg over a standard doped finish. A Sea Fury was also civil registere for delivery overseas, and seems to have the silver and red scheme reminiscent of the recent racing Spitfire. I think a fake amphibious Sea Fury model was posted with a similar scheme. May dig it out and see if I can make the mods. Have to see if I can contact the original authors for clearance though.

On that point, if you have tried to contact someone for clearance to repaint their model or modify a colour scheme, how long should you wait for a response, particularly if they seem to have disappeared off the scene and not produced anything lately?

I was in the flight sheds at Langley in 1951 which, I am sure you will agree, is an awful long time ago and therefore my memory is creaking a bit. As far as I recall there were 4 aircraft in the 'Hawker Flight' that were painted in dark blue and gold. They were the Hurricane, the Tomtit, a Messenger which was used for short liaison flights by the test pilots and an Avro Anson MK12 which had been owned by Haille Selassie, Emperor of Ethiopia, full of soft furnishings, etc.

The Cygnet was always in natural fabric and clear dope. The Hart, at that time was in the back of a hangar, dismantled, painted silver and waiting for a replacement Kestrel engine. I do not know if it was ever painted dark blue and gold. I was called up shortly after and lost touch with Langley.

Ralph you dont remember the registration of the Messenger -- shame that the Air Atlantique Anson never got done - then we could have all four of the Hawker flight -- Personally I love the blue and gold

Sorry! If I had known, 57 years ago, that today, we would be looking for all these sorts of details and information, I would have logged and snapped everything in sight. In fact I was not sure that I would last this long.

However, I bet that there are some enthusiasts out there who will be able to come up with both the Messenger and Anson details. This site is an amazing source of information for that period.
