Yeah - apparently now the Mirage 2000N has had the treatment.

It's no secret - I've been using this FS9 plane in FSX for ages - I must admit it looks and flies beautifully - I have a really hard time getting out of the cockpit when I go up in this one - the best working HUDs and scrolling maps I've come across.

Besides the point, of course - but I highly recommend this aircraft to both FS9 and FSX pilots.

Just don't use his version!

Hi guys my first post on this excellent forum, i couldn't help but notice that this Danny Garnier bloke has popped up on flightsim.com doing the same thing!

Now i must admit that it does seem quite strange that someone has taken it upon himself to try out fs9 models in fsx then upload them again as fsx compatible?! maybe he enjoys seeing his name plastered all over the main flightsim sites without actually doing much other than what most of us have prob done already!Or maybe the guy just genuinely wants to play a small part in the fs community ...who knows....but lets be honest he's not doing any harm is he? Maybe uploading a fsx compatibility list like some have suggested would be more appropriate...but how many people would bother to download it?...not many!...yet the 12 files he has uploaded at flightsim.com have already been downloaded by around 10,000 people!

Some of his uploads i have noticed have no cockpit glass and quite a few have issues with the gauges etc in sp2, and they arnt really fsx models anyway...but then again many new so-called fsx models uploaded arnt either but hey if they look ok and fly ok in fsx who cares?

If am honest i have been testing many of my old fav fs9 models in fsx and was quite pleased to notice many work ok whilst others i have had to alter textures or gauges etc to work properly, i was pleased to find ricks awesome Jet provost T.5 (I use this plane regularly and its still a work of art Rick!) worked fine but many do not.....in some ways i do suppose this Danny Garnier guy has helped some out who maybe haven't the time to try all their old fs9 planes in fsx.

I can see why Rick is annoyed, some guy has uploaded one of his products for fsx when it was a fs9 release, simviation seem to have encouraged this Danny Garnier bloke, maybe its to fill their pages and maintain interest in their site, and in their defense they have to maintain interest!! but i do get slightly annoyed when i check out their latest fsx downloads pages only to see older fs9 models masquerading as fsx uploads by Danny Garnier !....but hey everyone and Rick! on a positive note i assume there will still be many new flightsim converts to fsx who never owned fs9 and would prob never have bothered downloading all the fs 9 planes (Ricks included!) just to try them out in their new fsx installation! ...so in some ways Danny Garnier is performing a tried and tested service for many....albiet i reckon without permission! ....

on a final note i firmly believe that any flightsim developers like 'Rick' should have their wishes respected totally......but i do feel removing all your planes from simviation is a bit like cutting your nose off to spite your face and wont acheive anything positive!

The vast majority of people in the flightsim community today will all know who 'Rick Piper' is, he is one of the great plane developers out there who make our hobby come alive with awesome planes with great realism and for that i for one salute you Rick! ........Danny garnier....for all we know the guy could be dieing of cancer or living on his own with no legs!...lets not totally burn him at the stake.... ;-)

Hi coltsr2

And Welcome

This guy has taken it upon himself to be some sort of saviour

He feels as well that his action has made some developers issue their own FS.X versions as if he should be praised for getting them to shift their arses.

He seems to think that developers should create other versions and if they don't then he will.

If a developer produces a model for a sim it is not for anyone else to say it will work in another sim.

He feels because it is free there is no copyright.

These so called improvement often entail new FDE's making the model do things it is not suppose to.

He is doing great harm.he is interferring and making feeware folks think about giving up

It should not be touched buy anyone in any form without the permission of the creator

Simple as that.

He may well have enabled thousand to try out but he risks losing the community new models.

It is simple he should leave things alone.

I even know of cases where developers get bomabarded with emails because something doesn't work only to find out an 'improved ' version was downloaded.

We on this site take great pains to make things realistic. This is after a great deal of reasearch. If it is hard to fly then that is because the real one was. It does not need improving by someone who takes a quick glance then modifies things to how he thinks they should be.

Makes me very angry.

Garry

Yep Gary i can see your point mate and i agree with you 100%, its such a shame some developers have gone through so much time and effort to release a great freeware package only to have someone else ignore their requests to not upload it to other sites or alter it in any way then they do so and then have the cheek to claim some sort of credit......it does seem a bit sad.

I was just trying to understand the motivation behind why someone would do such a thing and take it upon themselves to upload loads of fs9 planes to fsx by only in most cases adding a thumbnail!
To be honest with me being quite a naive sort of guy i always try and assume all people are decent and good inside...but i realize many are not....

Rick was quite specific about his wishes not to re-upload etc in his readme txt in the Jet Provost T.5 package - quote:-

''This is FREEWARE. These files are strictly for your own personal, non-commercial use. Any redistribution, repackaging or reselling of these files in any form is expressly prohibited without the permission of the authors''.

Yes i made a point that many have downloaded danny wats his face ''re-uploads'' but if the original developers are being ignored they will get upset and annoyed then we will all suffer in the long run...and i have to agree with you gary on this point....

I for one am extremely grateful for all the freeware developers out there and especially more so when they are as skilled and as professional as Rick and i personally have no trouble whatsoever in respecting his wishes as regards his instructions not to re-upload his planes in any way or to any other sites....Maybe Simviation must at least appear to similarly uphold a professional and respectful approach in dealing with freeware developers in the future or they too will eventually loose out...

Anyway keep up the good work Rick and thank you for all your amazing planes mate.............

First of all i must thank Rick for his great JP which i have in both fs9 and fsx the reason why this other guy gets away with it is because beginners like me are looking down the list of fsx aircrafts to down load and dont know that all the hard work is done by someone like Rick the other guy should have said 99% of the work was Ricks

Most of us beginners and maybe a few old hands arnt quite sure how we change our fs9 aircraft to work on fsx
