Re: Advice on Anti-Virus Programmes
Hi Ben,
I believe that Steganos, a German company, put together a series of high quality security functions created by third parties (not sure if Steganos wrote any of them) and marketed them as their Internet Security Suite (currently v.2008).
The AV feature was created by Kapersky but this was before Kapersky started to market the product under their own name. When they did so, I was a bit surprised that Steganos continued to offer the same AV program. There must be some agreement, I suppose.
Steganos sell a whole range of security products, much of it being business orientated.
HTH. Regards,
Ralph

Hi Nigel,
Thanks for the reply but the price was in US Dollars so it's about 20 quid. Just thought I would mention it.
Best wishes
Ralph

Nigel..
If you run a hotmail account, you'll find it's protected by Trend. When M$ first switched.. it was a bit unforgiving.. particularly with things like xml which it reported as a virus each time I was sent a gauge  However.. as my Hotmail account is the 'Pay' version, I was able to download the file via Outlook
To the very best of my knowledge.. it's never let anything through though this may be because it flags anything it doesn't know as a virus!
I constantly hear very good things about NOD32 as well as Kaspersky. PeterM uses a freeware AV.. the name of which escapes me at the mo and he speaks very highly of it. Hopefully, he'll pop onto the thread and remind us all of what it is :brick: Is it Avast I wonder

I use Kaspersky as do several of my friends.
If go go to the Kaspersky site and enter"whsmith" in the coupon code box, it'll give you 50% off!

Hi Ralph,
sorry, I just assumed it was in sterling :doho: Should have looked closer.
Going to download trial versions for a month and see which one I feel happy with.
Like to once again thank every-one who has given their advice on anti-virus soft-ware, has been a tremendous help.
Many thanks.
Regards
Nigel.

I used to be an optimist but with age I am now a grumpy old pessimist.

Well, have to say that I have gone from my word on the monthly trials bit.
Went to Kaspersky and did what Charlie Bravo said to do write in whsmith in the coupon......and got it all for £14.10.
Now just hope they don't ask for the coupon!!
Now I feel happy!!
Many thanks again

Yes, I believe PeterM does use Avast, as do I. I have been very happy with it and the price is certainly right.DaveB wrote:Nigel..

Nigel..
How many PC's does Kaspersky cover?? I've been through the gumph on their website from top to bottom and can't find anything to suggest the cover is for any more than 1

Cheers Ben. I see that Trend is for 3 straight out of the box so depending on the price.. it could be a better investment ;-)
