It's not necessary to install SP1 before installing SP2 - the SP1 updates are included, at least with Acceleration. It's not strictly necessary to run the unpatched version before installing a patch either (I've done it without in the past), but I can see that there may be advantages to doing that.

Hi James,

Acceleration is a different kettle of fish. It does include all of the updates. The downloads don't though. They need to be downloaded separately.... very necessary. ;-)

Ah, I see. I stand corrected. Being one of the impatient ones who couldn't wait for the download version, I've only used Acceleration. I'm currently trying it for the first time in Windows XP, which seems to have eliminated the annoying refresh-tearing issue for me.
